March 16th, 2009, 12:01 pm · · posted by

The top 3 stayed the same, as it is expected to until a team can spring an upset of one of them.

Here is the new top 10:

1. University: The Trojans beat No. 2 Mater Dei, 14-4, and Peninsula 15-3 last week to retain their top hold on the county rankings.

2. Mater Dei: Despite the loss to University, the Monarchs remain in the No. 2 spot because they beat CdM earlier this season 10-8.

3. Corona del Mar: The Sea Kings won all three matches – Laguna Beach, Estancia, Sunny Hills – last week and dropped just six sets in the three matches, playing one without their top two singles players.

4. Troy: Big victory over then No. 4 Northwood last week. The Warriors are still undefeated (5-0) but have a big match today (Monday) against Villa Park.

5. Woodbridge: The Warriors belonged in the initial top 10 poll but were mistakingly left out and Woodbridge showed why last week. The school beat then No. 5 Dana Hills, 11-7. And lost to No. 2 Mater Dei, 11-7.

6. Northwood: The Timberwolves dropped after losing to Troy, but still showed they have a worhty lineup that can cause trouble. Side Note – Because of a scheduling conflict, Northwood and Woodbridge meet twice in the final week of league.

7. Dana Hills: The Dolphins seem to be a little down from years past, but still are good enough to hold this spot in the rankings. Dana Hills lost matches to Northwood and Woodbridge this season.

8. Villa Park: The Spartans still haven’t loss on the season and have a chance to prove they belong higher in the rankings with their match against Troy today (Monday). The Spartans are carried by their solid doubles teams and beat then No. 6 Los Al, 17-1, last week.

9. Santa Margarita: Eagles beat then No. 9 Irvine last week 10-8 to move up a spot in the county rankings.

10. Newport Harbor: The Sailors boast a solid lineup, but have some testy matches coming up, including one against Laguna Beach this week.
