Victory USA travel ball coach Mark Campbell has been hired as Pacifica’s new softball coach, Pacifica assistant principal Dan Ma announced on Thursday.
Campbell replaces Kevin Cody, who resigned last week. Cody was 50-19 in his two seasons as the Mariners coach, leading Pacifica to a CIF-SS Division II championship in ’07 and to the semifinals in ’08.
Campbell has led Victory USA to four ASA national championships with a winning percentage of .875 and over 25 major tournament championships.
Pacifica’s Andrea Harrison, Kennedy’s Jamia Reid and San Pedro’s Lini Koria are some of the EA Aports All-Americans that have played for Campbell. Seven former Victory USA players made the 2008 All-County team.
“He is probably one of the most well respected coaches in the lower age groups in the travel ball circuit,” Canyon coach Dan Hay said of Campbell.
Add to that list of accomplishments runner up at last years 14u ASA national championship, a top 4 finish, a top ten finish, 3 So Ca State championships, this list could go on forever. Heck he even coached his son to Williamsport in Little League baseball. The man was born to coach. Both pitchers on the freshmen to watch list, Pola and Bishop pitch for him on Victory USA. It he stays for the long haul at Pacifica you will see a Rob Weil type run of success at Pacifica.
the difference is the parents campbell has to deal with and the the 18 players of more on each team. the pitching this year is weaker than the past with rob weil. since kenedy is rebuilding, and has no pitching at all, they should do well. campebell is a great choice, hopefully he can keep the parents and the rear kissers away.
cut the squad to 13 and work form there. good luck mark
I think Kennedy is getting a bad rap in all these aritcles and ranking comments. Kennedy IS in the middle of a rebuilding year. They have new young and knowledgable coaches who are excited to teach and looking forward to building Kennedy back into competitive program. I’m excited to see what’s in store for this program in the future!
Welcome Coach Cambell to the PaCIFica Mariner’s. Look’s like you took a great job at a Great High School. The Girl’s will win for you right off, teach them to be Example’s on and off the field. The Girl’s will look back on this time and reflect, building Character and Value’s. I’m hoping for a CIF ring for all the Girl’s this Season…Champion’s Alway’s ”CRUNCHBUNCH”…
Enough about Kennedy rebuilding to get back to a competative program ,theyre 5-1 and have 2 strong pitchers, and a very talented team thats only gonna get better.Campbell what a great pick up for pacifica.Campbells got all you want in a coach . good luck to you all Go Irish!!!
I guess the fact that Campbell’s kid is not playing high school ball at Cypress because she did not make varsity has nothing to do with him wanting the job. Gee, I wonder who Pacifica’s varsity center fielder will be next year? Somethings never change!
Let me get this straight Heather, are you saying that Campbell is a “Daddy-Baller”? Give me a break! He has all those Travelball tourney wins by starting a player who has no business on the team? Hardly! Didn’t Campbell apply for the Pacifica job after Weil left? Oh yea, his kid didn’t start in center field at Cypress then either. Get your facts straight before you make accusations. BTW, I’ve seen his kid play and I think she would help a lot of softball programs.
this team may not have past players like masceranes, legaspi, or freed…
but they sure have a lot of heart and passion for the game.
kevin cody was an awesome coach, and he wouldnt give up the team to just anybody.
expect big things to happen this year and years to come.
GO SEA DOGS!
Kevin Cody made a mockery out of the program. He had no say in who the next coach would be. Congratulations to Coach Campbell and to Pacifica for finally getting a real coach.
I heard Cody is now at Cypress High? They now have more coaches then players.
