A look at a few matches today:
No. 7 Mater Dei at Long Beach Millikan, 5 pm
The Monarchs started the season with a big victory against Valencia of Valencia on Tuesday. Mater Dei will look to build on that. Also, with the boys basketball team losing, it’s unclear whether Connor Hughes will be back. Either way, Mater Dei is a team to track after its surprise season opener.
Valencia at Brea Olinda, 5:30 pm
There was a time when this was an Orange League showdown. Now its another nonleague match early in the season. Stil, bragging rights are bragging rights and the two north county schools are after them in this one.
El Toro at Laguna Hills, 5:30 pm
The Chargers lost their first two before winning their last one. They will look to pull to .500 against their rival. The Hawks are coming off a sweep of Gahr. The thing about bragging rights above, well, it runs deeper in this match up.
More from the boys volleyball blog:
Hughes came back afte5r one day of practice to start at outside hitter.
He had well over 15 kills and hit over .700. With H. Carroll sidelined for another week, look for MD to start to gel for the OC next week.
