University coach John Kessler said the match between the Trojans and the Monarchs was much closer than the final score would suggest.

University beat Mater Dei 14-4 in a showdown between the county’s top two teams at Los Caballeros Tennis Center.

The Monarchs moved Charlie Alvarado to doubles with Justin Agbayani. Chris Freeman beat Reo Asami 7-5 in the first round as the teams were tied at 3.

University swept the singles in the final two rounds, and the doubles in Round 3. John Huang trailed Freeman 1-4 in the second round before pulling out the 6-4 victory. Huang and Matt Siow, who was playing his first match for the Trojans, swept at singles.
