CIF-SS SOCCER SEMIFINALS
Division I
ALISO NIGUEL (22-2-2) vs. LOS ALAMITOS (20-3-5)
Site, time: Laurel School, 3 p.m.
Outlook: The Wolverines and Griffins will renew acquaintances for the first time since last season’s CIF-SS quarterfinals, when Aliso Niguel defeated Los Alamitos 2-1.
The third-seeded Wolverines have continued to rely on the stingiest defense in Division I, as they have not allowed a goal in their playoff victories over Great Oak 3-0 in the first round, Upland 1-0 in the second round, and Santa Margarita 2-0 in the quarterfinals.
For the season, they have allowed only seven goals. Junior goalie Kathleen Messinger is one of nine goalies in the county that has recorded over 100 saves.
The second-seeded Griffins have had a much more difficult road into the semifinals, as two of their three wins have come via shootout, including their quarterfinal victory over Mater Dei. Los Alamitos is 11-1-1 in their last 13 games, outscoring their opponents 25-8 in the process.
GIRLS SOCCER SEMIFINALS PREVIEW:
Aliso’s defense will shine again and put the Lady Wolverines in the finals.
Uh … Los Al’s record heading into the game was 18-3-7. Now 18-3-8. Games that go to PKs are ties.
