Here is the longer version of my note on La Habra's Aaron La Farge that will run in Tuesday's edition of the Register.
La Farge was a first-team All-County wrestler last year at 103 pounds.
NORWALK -- After receiving his medal for his second consecutive CIF title, La Habra’s Aaron La Farge was found at the snack bar at John Glenn High grabbing a post-match snack.
He definitely deserved it.
La Farge, who won his first CIF title last year at 103 pounds, sealed his second title with a 7-4 victory over Bradford Gerl of Calvary Chapel Downey Saturday.
It was only match that went the distance for La Farge. He won three matches by pin and another by technical fall to advance to his second consecutive Masters Meet.
La Farge placed third at last year’s Masters Meet at 103 pounds. He advanced to the state tournament, but went 2-2, losing in the round that would have guaranteed him a spot in the top eight.
Now, he's looking for a better ending.
“112’s is a tough weight class in the Southern Section,” La Farge said. “But, I have high goals and I think I should be in the finals (at Mastesrs). Every match is tough at Masters, but we’ll see what happens.”
La Farge said that one of the biggest difference in his performance this season as compared to last is confidence. La Farge became the first La Habra wrestler to place in his weight class at Five Counties. La Farge finished fifth.
“I’m a lot more confident this year,” he said. “I’ll wrestle anybody this year. I'm not backing down or running away. At state last year, I don't think I was confident enough. I was happy to be there. This year, I'm going in with high goals and high expectations."
La Farge will face Justin Gutierrez of Montclair in the first round of Masters, Friday.
