The new O.C. boys basketball top 10 and Steve Fryer's 11-25 selections might surprise some people, but that's what happens in the playoffs.
Did anyone think that undefeated Mater Dei would fall from No. 1? No.
But it was going to be interesting to see who the voters in the O.C. media poll put at No. 2 this week after last week's No. 2 team, Los Alamitos, was eliminated from the playoffs in the second round.
Could the Griffins, who lost by one point in overtime, hold on to their spot?
And what about Orange Lutheran, Ocean View, Tesoro and Sonora, all teams that advanced to the quarterfinals of their divisions? Could any of those teams sway the voters to move them up in the poll?
There's only one way to find out.

Now that Canyon is in the final 4 which you predicted they would not get to. What do you think now? Give Nate Harrison and the young men of Canyon some credit.
Los Alamitos had a great run this year. It is unfortunate their efforts fell short at Lynwood. Lynwood, unfortunately ran into an Etiwanda team that was defeated by Los Alamitos in the same manner Los Alamitos was beaten by Lynwood...ONE POINT. High school basketball is great, isn't it? Congratulations to Coach May and his staff for another winning season. This Los Alamitos team is one that will be remembered for many years to come. Throughout the season they showed heart, and functioned as a well-oiled machine. The doomsday theorists never expected 27-2 did they? Regardless of the outcome of the CIF Finals, the 2008-2009 Los Alamitos Basketball team emerged victorious.
Actually Etiwanda beat Lynwood by more than one point...like 20. Los Alamitos beat Etiwanda by one point, and Lynwood beat Los Alamitos by one point. I just wanted to make that point clear...
