For what it's worth, La Habra has wins over three of the teams ahead of it, Foothill, Santa Margarita and Sonora, as well as a win over the probable 2-A champ, La Mirada (26-3) ...
For what it's really worth, the only reason La Habra beat Sonora 1 out of 2 (Oh yeah Sonora did beat La Habra) was Farrand was sidelined. He came back and scored 25 pts tonite when it counted, in CIF playoffs. Worth the rest time to still be playing now. La Habra was a one great player team in Sachs, but doesn't come close to the Sonora team, and is ranked just about right.
HB had 6 losses - 3 to Top 10 teams, 2 to Top 15 teams and 1 to La Mirada (who might win CIF) 4 of those losses by a total of 6 pts. Not saying they deserve better ranking-but they played a pretty tough schedule and on purpose-for all those HB haters out there. Check your schedule before you pop off!
Farrand is a damn fine player and the odds-on Freeway MVP next year, but he wasn't the difference. He scored 14 in Sonora's win over LH, but his replacement, Kuester, scored 13 in LH's win over Sonora. The difference was that LH's non-Sachs players connected from the outside in the home win and didn't in the road loss. Check MaxPreps. Besides, if it was just Farrand, it wouldn't explain the LH wins over La Mirada, Santa Margarita and Foothill. But yes, Sonora is still the better team. Farrand Beardon and Slone are tough, and Kjer too, and Murphy's a great coach..
Souljah - You are right about the outside shots being the decider In Sonora v LH 2, but fail to understand who's outside shots made the difference, and why LH had open shots at La Habra (without Farrand). As LH coach said, they pummeled Slone with screens for Sachs and when he broke free, instead of Farrand guarding the rim (8 blocked shots in the game 1 Sonora victory) the team was forced to collapse on Sachs leaving Nygren open for only his 6th game in double figures up to that point - was pretty good odds to have Nygren (avg 8.5 ppg all season, 6.5pts in two CIF playoff games) instead of Sachs shooting, but Randy really stepped up in the big game. (CHeck MAX for that info, or OC varsity video for LH coach saying the same thing, but not mentioning Farrand not being there, at least there is one person who agrees with you). But the real decider was Sonora's outside shot, and its complete inability to get the ball in the basket. Farrand would have had more than 14 pts just from offensive rebounds for all the Raiders misses. In OC Reg, LH coach whines after LH victory over Sonora about all the shots (32) LH missed against Fullerton in the previous game, (hope those nightmares have ended coach) after just watching the Raiders miss 40 shots!!! Without Kuester (who had a great game) the Raiders shot 13, yes 13%. Per the OC Varsity article on the game, Farrand was averaging 19 pts and 15 rebounds coming into the game. (did I mention the 8 blocks he had in Son vs LH game 1) Farrand on the sideline didn't make a difference??? Souljah -look a little deeper than just the pts, you just said he was Freeway MVP next year,... Again Sachs is an incredible player (this years Freeway MVP, County player of the year?? with Chris Bearden right behind him), who had an incredible season, but La Habra's wins over Foothill (first game of the season, and who they lost to in a rematch later in the year) Santa Margarita and La Mirada all before Dec 20th (along with a loss to 13-14 Mission Viejo) were all Jordan Sachs> (OK Nygren did go off again for 22 on La Mir), Without Jordan not sure they are top 25, with him, and almost exclusively him, they are about a 13.
