A few games to keep an eye on today:
Aliso Niguel at Tesoro (South Coast League, 3:30pm)
The Wolverines (4-2-1) trail the Titans (4-0-3) by two points in the standings. Tesoro won the first meeting, 1-0, but Aliso Niguel needs this one to have any hopes of defending its league crown. Tesoro hasn’t lost in league play yet, though the Titans tied Capistrano Valley 0-0 in their last game, missing a chance to get that extra key point. Aliso Niguel is playing its best soccer, winning three-straight shutouts and scoring 7 goals in that span.
Sunny Hills at La Habra (Freeway League, 3pm)
Another battle for first place. The Lancers (4-1-2) and Highlanders (3-0-4) are tied atop the standings. The team’s played to a 0-0 tie in the first meeting. Sunny Hills is coming off a 1-0 victory over Fullerton, while La Habra tied Troy 0-0 last time out. With two games remaining, a winner in this one gains the advantage for the league title, though lots can happen in this competitive league.
Woodbridge at El Toro (Sea View League, 3:15 pm)
Something about games for first place today. Here’s another. The Chargers (4-0-3) lead the Warriors (4-1-2) and Foothill (4-1-2) by a point in the standings. Woodbridge and El Toro tied 1-1 in their first meeting. However, the Chargers are playing strong soccer of later, having won three straight and outscoring their opposition 13-2 in that span. Woodbridge picked up a key 2-1 victory over Foothill last time out. With a victory, the Warriors will take over first place.
