SANTA ANA – There might not be a bigger rivalry in Orange County high school sports than the one that exists between Saddleback and Santa Ana.
And on Wednesday at Santa Ana Stadium, tempers reached a boiling point in a Golden West League boys soccer match.
In the 68th minute with Saddleback leading, 4-0, a fight started on the field and both benches emptied. Several punches were thrown and players were knocked to the ground. Both coaching staffs rushed to the scene along with a security guard, but it took several minutes for order to be restored as the pushing and shoving continued.
When things finally calmed down, the referee called the game, giving Saddleback a 4-0 victory.

• Dottore: Bad feel to the Saddleback-Santa Ana game from the start
anyone get this on video?
Yes. I did. I am working on posting it now. Along with comments from the coaches
sounds like both of the coaches did and are trying to do the right thing, and it is too bad that these young men did not have enough respect for their communities, their schools and their coaches to restrain themselves.
Sounds like CIF should ban these two squads for the remainder of the season.
