A trio of games to follow today:

Mater Dei at JSerra (Trinity League, 3:15 pm)

What would a day of soccer without a Trinity League battle be? A sad day, that’s what. This one is for first place. Both teams enter 4-1-1. Mater Dei enters having beaten Servite in its last contest, the Lions beating Orange Lutheran in theirs. JSerra won the first meeting, 3-2, and led 3-0 at halftime. JSerra has games remaining against Servite and Santa Margarita still. Mater Dei has games against Santa Margarita, St. John Bosco and Orange Lutheran. A victory today can position the Monarchs for the Trinity League title. The same goes for JSerra, though its remaining schedule is a bit more difficult.

Sunny Hills at Troy (Freeway League, 3 pm)

As it stands, the Warriors (2-3) are the outsiders for the final playoff berth. Sunny Hills (3-1-1) holds one of the three spots Troy is chasing. The Warriors can gain ground with a victory, but a tie or loss doesn’t serve them well. Is it too early to call it a must-win for Troy? Sunny Hills won the first meeting, 2-1, and will look to increase its lead on Troy with a victory of its own and keep pace with Fullerton for first place.

El Modena at Tustin (Century League, 3pm)

Three teams – El Dorado, Vanguards and Tillers – are 2-1. With Brea Olinda in first place, one of those three teams isn’t going to the playoffs. Who will it be? Tusting and El Modena get their first crack at each other after their first meeting was cancelled because of the strong winds. Can any team separate itself, or will they remain bunched up after this one?
