Here are five individuals and teams that stood out over the past week.
Five Standouts of the Week:
Ashley Bush (Sonora): Enjoyed a spectacular scoring week, tallying five of Sonora’s seven total goals in ties against Fullerton (2-2) and Troy (5-5).
Tiana Kallenberger (University): Senior forward was a big reason for the Trojans success this week, scoring three goals and adding two assists.
Mollie Curran (Aliso Niguel): Senior scored the game winning goal in Tuesday’s 2-1 victory of San Clemente.
Mariah Nogueira (Marina): The all-county senior scored the game winning goal, as Marina upset No. 4 Esperanza 1-0 on Thursday. Nogueira has now scored five goals in five league games for the Vikings.
Karly Weeks (Rancho Alamitos): The dynamic senior forward was at it again, scoring four of the Vaqueros five goals this week, giving her 21 on the season.
Five Teams of the Week:
Garden Grove: The Argonauts remained undefeated in league play with a pair of one goal victories this week. Defense has fueled their four consecutive league victories, as Garden Grove has only allowed one goal during that stretch.
Los Alamitos: The beat continues for the Griffins, who extended their winning streak to 10 consecutive with victories over Marina and Edison, the latter in overtime. While defense has been the main catalyst for their recent run, the Griffins are receiving balanced scoring, as six different players scored the Griffins’ six goals this week.
Pacifica: With first place in the Empire League on the line against rival Kennedy, the Mariners responded with a 2-0 victory to take sole possession of first place. The Mariners have now outscored their league opponents 13-1 and have won three straight against the Fighting Irish dating back to last season.
Trabuco Hills: The Mustangs gained control of the Sea View league with a convincing 3-0 win over Northwood Thursday, snapping the Timberwolves 6-game winning streak in the process. Trabuco Hills has not allowed a goal in league play so far this season.
University: Winning in the Pacific Coast League has becoming contagious for the Trojans, who have posted three straights wins after going the entire league season a year ago with out a victory. Their efforts this week included a pair of decisive road decisions against Beckman (4-0) and Irvine (5-1).
