Here are the current standings:
1. Tesoro 3-0-2, 8 pts
2. San Clemente 2-1-2, 6 pts
3. Mission Viejo 3-2, 6 pts
4. Aliso Niguel 2-2-1, 5 pts
5. Dana Hills 1-3-1, 3 pts
6. Capistrano Valley 1-4, 2 pts
Breakdown: Tesoro in first place at the half way mark is a surprise. Titans are still unbeaten in league, scoring 9 goals in five games. The Titans were somewhat of an unknown, but didn't seem like Tesoro would be one of the 3 playoff teams from the South Coast, with San Clemente, Aliso Niguel and Mission Viejo the usual suspects.
But with just 3 points separating first-place Tesoro and fourht-place Aliso, anything can, and usually does, happen in this league.
Tritons waste chance: That's how San Clemente coach Michael Pronier felt about Friday's loss to Dana Hills. The Tritons haven't won the South Coast title since 1998. Pronier said if his team wants to win it this year, Friday's loss can be the only bump in the road.
Dana Hills back?: After Friday's first league victory, the Dolphins would like to think so. Coach Dennis Korinke loved his team's play against San Clemente. Some of the players said afterward the key for the Dolphins is getting everybody to show up at practice.
Big week for Aliso boys: The Wolverines entered the week 1-2 and in need of points. They got 3 of the possible four they could have earned this week, tying San Clemente and beating Capo Valley, 3-1, Friday. The two-time defending champs can't be counted out, and have stepped up their game the past two seasons in the second half of South Coast.
Mission Viejo: Usually a fixture in the county top 10, the Diablos are down slightly this year, but that will only serve as motivation for the current team. Tied for second, Mission Viejo needs to step up against San Clemente and Tesoro in the second half. The Diablos lost to both 3-1. However, the Diablos are still in second place, so if they go 3-2 in the last five games and finish 6-4 with 12 points, playoffs are likely.
How they'll finish: My prediction ...
1. San Clemente
2. Tesoro
3. Aliso Niguel
4. Mission Viejo
5. Dana Hills
6. Capistrano Valley

Two time Aliso Niquel champs?
You need to add a 2007 asterix
Re:South Coast League Boys soccer.I was just sad to see you had a nice article about Dana Hills beating San Clemente and yet team Tesoro an underdog team in ocvarsity's opinion gets to first place and there is nothing on them or there success.I know soccer is not huge news but its always good for young athletes to receive a little pubic acknowledgement for their achievements.Even if its not football or basketball.
Just a suggestion
You need and asterix by 2007...hahha that's great!
and so true.
It would be awesome if San Clemente won the South Coast league.
they are always so close....
Last time winning, and I believe, ONLY time winning the league championship was in 1998. It would be great for SC and Mike Pronier.
Tesoro Fan:
We haven't gotten to see Tesoro play yet this year, and that's our fault.
I will make sure I get to at least one Titans game in the second half of league.
You are absolutely right. They deserve a lot of credit for being in first place after five games.
Thanks for the comment.
I thought Dana played great on Friday. Chris Juarez is a huge plus to that team and look for them to win more than one in the second half if he stays out there...
Wild Wild -----------South
Tesoro pummels San Clemente 4 - 0
Aliso is making some noise and beats the Diablos 2 - 0
And the bottom dwellers Dana and Capo duke it out for the bottom of the table with Capo the survivor 2 - 1.
Does anyone want the South Coast League title this season.
Tesoro is clearly in control of their own destiny.
San Clemente is falling from grace and in a hurry!
YES, Tesoro is in control.
Wow, what a defense and GK was remarkable!!!
Look out for Aliso...Dodge will find a way....Tesoro and Aliso for the title this year, and any of the others can possibly get the 3rd spot into CIF
SC, MV, CV or DH
San Clemente has been missing key players
GK out- but might have returned by now
Sweeper - injured
Left mid- injured
#10 hot and cold
#20 always good- but that's all they got right now
They're toast
Mission Viejo just doesn't really have the talent this year
Come on Capo, you've got the talent....
