The Register’s 2008 girls cross country runner of the year will continue her career at one of the nation’s most prestigious institutions.

San Clemente senior Alex Dunne has committed to Stanford, her father Mike said in an e-mail received late Thursday night.

Dunne became the only runner (boy or girl) in the history of the South Coast League to win four consecutive league titles.

She had been recruited by numerous schools, including Georgetown and Duke, before making her choice to join the Cardinal.
