Football recruiting: Tustin's Robinson decommits, headed to Pac-10

I just got off the phone with All-County defensive lineman Chris Robinson of Tustin. The senior said he has decommitted from Nevada and committed to Washington.

"I committed to Washington on Saturday when I was up there (on a recruiting trip)," he said.

Robinson said the Huskies' interest in him caught him off guard. Robinson said new Washington defensive coordinator Nick Holt, formerly of USC, came after him.

"It actually took me by surprise," Robinson said.

Robinson attended USC's lineman camp during the summer. Holt and new Washington coach Steve Sarkisian, also formerly of USC, were at the camp, Robinson said.

When Robinson committed to Nevada in early January, he spoke fondly of the program but was intrigued by the Pac-10.

"I feel I made a great decision," he said Monday. "I wanted to play in the Pac-10 ... over the WAC."

Robinson also was impressed with Holt's track record with defensive tackles. He also had a strong connection with his Washington host, linebacker, Mason Foster, who attended Seaside High near Monterey, not far from one of Robinson's old schools, North Salinas.

"This is it," Robinson said of his commitment to Washington.
