What happened: The Trojans surprised league-favorite Corona del Mar, 2-1, in Pacific Coast League action Thursday at Las Lomas Community Park.

It’s the first PCL victory for University since 2007.

CdM led 1-0 at halftime.

Records: Corona del Mar 6-3-6, 1-1; University 3-3-5, 1-0-1

How it looked: CdM started the game so strong, coach Brian Middleton said afterward he thought his team would score two or three goals and put it away.

However, the Trojans defense didn’t crack until the final three minutes of the first half, when CdM took a 1-0 lead.

University’s ball control picked up in the second half and the Trojans produced more attacks. They capitalized on one about 15 minutes into the second half and tied it at 1.

About 5 minutes later, the Trojans struck again and led 2-1 with about 20 minutes to play.

Who scored: CdM took advantage off a corner kick when Hayley Raguse kick’s bounced off the Trojans keeper and into the net.

Sophomore Sarah Forthal scored both goals for University. Both were assisted by Tiana Kallenberger.

On the first, Kallenberger beat 3 defenders and took the ball baseline and crossed it. Forthal was in perfect poisiton and one-touched in.

On the second, Kallenberger headed a free kick ahead to Forthal, who beat the keeper near post.

High five to …: Trojans keeper Aussie DuFault. The junior keeper played a perfect second half, stopping numerous chances and making great decisions. Twice she came off her line to punch the ball out. Another, she made a great leaping two-handed punch save off a strong CdM shot.
