TRABUCO HILLS AND HUNTINGTON BEACH PLAY TO A TIE

In Sea View League action, the #6 ranked Trabuco Hills Mustangs played to a tie 0 – 0 against a tough Huntington Beach Oilers team. This marks the second straight game that the Mustangs have held their opponent scoreless. The Mustang defense led by team co-captain Senior outside defender - Kirstyn Magyar #16, Senior sweeper – Ariana Lagerborg #13, Sopomore outside defender - Jessica Mandarich #22 and Junior defensive midfielder (Stopper) – Alexes Huerta #23 held the Oilers to only six shots throughout the match.

Mustangs opened up the first half controlling the tempo of the game by keeping the ball in Oiler territory 75% of the time. They took 8 shots in the first half, but were unable to convert on any offensive opportunities. At approximately the 32nd minute of play, Mustangs team leading goal scorer (7) – Senior center midfielder – Jackie Samis #18 stole a loose ball from the goalie and put it into the back of the net, but the goal was called off and the Oilers were awarded a goal kick.

The Oilers came out on fire in the second half, dominating the field of play until about the 55th minute of play when momentum changed. Mustang’s best opportunity came at approximately the 60th minute of play when Samis sent a ball across the field from the back touchline to Senior forward – Dani Benton who was waiting directly in front of the goal post, 8 yards deep, but pitched the ball up and over the top of the goal. Mustangs were able to fire off 5 shots in the second half, but came up empty.

Freshman goalie – Kassidie Stade #0 finished the match with 4 saves on 6 shots. Stade had a remarkable save in the first half of play when an Oiler shot that would have been a goal was deflected up and over the top of the goal. The Mustangs who are now 8 – 4 – 1 on the season, are led by Head Coach Sarah Trost and Assistant Coach Megan Konishi.</description>
