What happened: The defending Sea View champ Timberwolves handed the Chargers their second consecutive loss, 1-0, to open league play Tuesday at Meadowood Park.
Northwood led 1-0 at halftime.
Records: El Toro 7-4-2, 0-2; Northwood 7-6-3, 2-0
How it looked: Neither team could say it brought its “A” game to the match. Creating scoring opportunities is what each team was struggling with.
However, there’s something to say about the defense when that happens, and both teams were solid in the backfield, eliminating mistakes and picking up runners.
It sounds simplistic, but Northwood scored on one of their few opportunities and the Chargers didn’t. Ball game.
Who scored: Sophomore Lauren Porter came through in the first half for the Timberwolves. Porter is currently starting for Northwood while another players serves a suspension for missing team practices and Porter made good.
High five to …: Northwood’s Brittany Langdon. The senior defender controlled the game from the backfield. With her height advantage, she won virtually every ball in the air and wasn’t afraid to use her body on other plays.
Coach Steve Tatone had high praise for her afterward and told his team during its meeting that they owe a lot of thanks to Brittany.
