Irvine All-County lineman Nik Abele (6-6, 260) has committed to UCLA, he confirmed in a text message late Saturday night.
Abele was scheduled to be on an official visit to UCLA this weekend. His commitment is further proof that UCLA has made big strides recruiting in Orange County the past two recruiting seasons under Rick Neuheisel.
UCLA already has a commitment from Mission Viejo DB/WR Alex Mascarenas in this class of ’09 and Los Alamitos WR Paul Richardson in 2010.
Then last season, the Bruins signed Troy RB Derrick Coleman, Mission Viejo OL Jeff Baca and Edison QB Nick Crissman. Coleman and Baca proved as freshman that they were great signings and Abele has a chance to do the same thing.
