An argument can be made no player has more responsibility to step into this year than San Clemente goal keeper Tiffany Corder.
A senior, it's her first year of varsity soccer.
She choose to play JV and actually play and work on her game, rather than sit behind the starting goalie last season.
Her assignment this year - Replace last year's Division I Defensive Player of the Year, Tritons goalie Hannah Turpen. Turpen helped San Clemente win CIF last year.
For comparison sakes, Corder did last week what only one other San Clemente goalie has done - guide the team to the Excalibur Championship, recording four shut outs. It just so happens that other goalie - Shayla Sabin - is Stacey Finnerty's assistant and knows something about filling big shoes.
How is Corder handling the transition?
"Hannah was a great keeper," she said. "I have to come in and play my role and do the best I can.
"All the girls, that's our motto. Play the best you can.
"I want to take this challenge on. I want to do it for the girls."
Her coach's thought's on the job so far?
"She is doing very well," Finnerty said. "She has one of the most positive attitudes. She brings the defense together."
