TRINITY LEAGUE PREVIEW

LEAGUE FAVORITE

Mater Dei: With an unprecedented starting five that are headed for four-year schools – David and Travis Wear, to North Carolina; Andy Brown, to Stanford; Gary Franklin, to USC; and Tyler Lamb, to UCLA – this is the best team in the county, and perhaps the state and the nation, too.

PROJECTED LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Andy Brown, Mater Dei: Any of the Mater Dei starting five could win player of the year honors. Brown's penchant for shining in the Monarchs' biggest games could make him rise above them all.

OTHERS TO WATCH

James Douglas (Orange Lutheran, 6-0, So., G); Gary Franklin (Mater Dei, 6-3, Jr., G); Tyler Funk (Orange Lutheran, 6-0, Jr., G); Jessee Hazely (Santa Margarita, 6-7, Sr., F); Tyler Lamb (Mater Dei, 6-4, Jr., G); Pat Moran (5-11, Sr., G); Daniel Munoz (Santa Margarita, 5-11, Sr., G); John Russo (Servite, 6-3, Sr., G); David Wear (Mater Dei, 6-10, Sr., F); Travis Wear (Mater Dei, 6-10, Sr., F); Alec Williams (JSerra, 6-6, Sr., F)

TEAM ON THE RISE

Orange Lutheran: The Lancers have an excellent group of underclassmen, especially at guard.

TEAM UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Servite: Tim Kelly of the Friars is regarded as one of the county's better coaches, but Servite likely lacks the size and skill to win much in this rugged league.

TOP GAMES

Mater Dei at Santa Margarita, Jan. 16; Santa Margarita at Orange Lutheran, Jan. 21; Orange Lutheran at Mater Dei, Jan. 23

  • Coach says:

Mater Dei has the best team in the Country! The rest of the league will battle this year for second. All the Coaches will make adjustments for their second round games and this will determine the other playoff teams!

Unfortunately I am one of those teams fighting for 2nd to Mater Dei I would have to say the pac-10 needs to expand to an 11 team conference and include Mater Dei, yes MD is that good this year. Keep on the look out for Santa Margarita and Orange Lutheran. Lutheran is on the rise and I think they got a Freshman in there on the varsity his shooting range is anywhere pass the half-court line in.
