SEA VIEW LEAGUE PREVIEW

LEAGUE FAVORITE

Huntington Beach: El Toro has won six consecutive league championships, but the Oilers, with three starters back from a team that was 23-5 overall and 8-2 in league last year, could end El Toro's streak.

PROJECTED LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Zachary Kimber, Huntington Beach: Even with high-scoring guard Nick Becker on last year's team, Kimber averaged 17 points a game. Kimber, a 6-foot-3 senior guard, was all-league first-team last season.

OTHERS TO WATCH

Jordan Castaneda (Huntington Beach, 6-3, So., G); Frank Denoewer (Foothill, 5-8, Sr., G); Jay Filley (Foothill, 6-4, Sr., F); Justin France (El Toro, 6-3, Jr., G); Donovan Jackson (El Toro, 6-4, Sr., G); Dante Mora (Woodbridge, 6-1, Sr., G); Andy Nakase (El Toro, 6-1, Sr., G); Neil Negrete (Huntington Beach, 6-7, Sr., C); Nicholas Neser (Huntington Beach, 6-1, Sr., G); Marcellus Pullum (Trabuco Hills, 6-3, Sr., F); Kyle Wilson (Trabuco Hills, 6-4, So. F)

TEAM ON THE RISE

Trabuco Hills: It might be tough to break into the top three – El Toro, Foothill and Huntington Beach – but the Mustangs will contend for a playoff berth.

TEAM UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Northwood: Recent coaching changes and defections of top players to other schools slowed the Timberwolves' progress.

TOP GAMES

Saddleback at Santa Ana, Jan. 16; Ocean View at Segerstrom, Jan. 28; Ocean View at Westminster, Feb. 11

  • Coach says:

Each night the Coaches will be prepared! Knowing these Coaches they will have thier teams ready and prepared with thier scouting reports! H.B. has the most talent and depth! El Toro plays the best defense and this wins games and Championships. They have the best player in Donovan Jackson, but not the depth as years in the past.

  • HoopRat says:

Foothill is capable of beating just about anyone in the leauge. They were very competitive last night versus HB and actually outplayed them for most of the 1st half. Don't be surprised if they sneak into the mix. Probably the best coached and most well prepared team in the league.

  • Woodbridge says:

    give woodbridge some credit 2

  • ET fan says:

El Toro took a definite hit when they lost Junior guard Justin France to a knee injury but give the Chargers a lot of credit from bouncing back and senior guard Shanne Johnson for stepping up and filling Frances spot. They escaped with a win against a very tough woodbridge game and without an amazing three point shooting show in the fourth quarter and a buzzer beater by senior guard KC Beirlich to cap off a 15 point comeback the chargers should have lost that game. It proved that the chargers are easily beatable. The upcoming El Toro-Huntington game coming up on wednessday could be the biggest game of the year, a battle between the two Sea View league heavy weights for the Sea View crown and of course bragging rights. Theres a lot of bad blood between these two teams from last years two hard fought games between the two top teams. The fans definitely remember a brawl that occurred last year in the second matchup when a Huntington beach student ran across the court at halftime towards the El Toro Student section to pick a fight with the Chargers rowdy fans. The ET fans had been chanting derogatory comments at the Oilers and there fans all game. The matchup between the leagues top two players, Donavon Jackson from EL Toro and Zachary Kimber from Huntington will only add fuel to the fire, as both are extremely entertaining to watch. Both teams beleive that there is some unfinished business and it will be an all-out war.
