LEAGUE FAVORITE
Sonora: Led by Chris Bearden and Marcus Farrand, the Raiders have the size and skill to win the championship and remain in the county top 10 all season. This year, every Freeway League team is a good team. The Raiders' toughest competition in league likely will come from La Habra and Fullerton.
PROJECTED LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Jordan Sachs, La Habra: He is averaging 30 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Sachs, a 6-foot-4 senior guard, signed with Westmont. He was All-County fourth team last season.
OTHERS TO WATCH
Jae Byun (Sunny Hills, 5-9, Jr., G); Kevin Conrad (Buena Park, 6-3, Sr., F); Marcus Farrand (Sonora, 6-7, Sr., C); Kevin Poli (Sunny Hills, 6-1, Jr., F); Jacob Slone (6-4, Sr., F)
TEAM ON THE RISE
Sunny Hills: The Lancers won 10 of their first 13 games this year – and last year they finished with 11 victories overall, and a 2-8 record in league.
TEAM UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Buena Park: Conrad is a fine player, but is the only one on the Coyotes' roster with much varsity experience coming into this season.
TOP GAMES
La Habra at Sonora, Wednesday; Sonora at La Habra, Feb. 4; Sonora at Fullerton, Feb. 10
The Coaches in this league do a such a great job, you need to make adjustments on the second half of the season when you play each other again! Sachs is the best player and La Habra has had some big wins! Sonora should win it, because they have the depth!
Kevin Conrad led a much-improved Buena Park team against La Habra Friday night. Conrad moves with speed and agility to power through his opponents, and jumps like the high-jumper he is (who broke the 37-year Buena Park high jump record in spring 08), scoring 25 of B.P.'s 53 points. Go Coyotes!
...big win for Troy over visiting Fullerton...no love for the Warriors...at least for one day...Troy's on top of Fullerton...so, all Freeway teams have a shot..GO Warriors!
