Now it's time to let us know what you think. Cast your vote for the program you think has been the most dominant so far in the 2008-09 school year.
Then make your case for your pick in the comments field below. Keep it positive, of course, since we're talking about kids here.

what about back to back cif champs in football and in soccer...oh thats right La Habra is not in the south county and you MUST be to be anything
If you answer the question that was asked honestly, there is only one team. Mater Dei Boys Basketball. They are averaging at least a 30 point margin of victory so far this season.
Only a complete idiot or someone living in a cave would select any other team.
Those of you that selected another team take two minutes and watch them play, they so dominate any team in Orange county let alone the West Coast of the nation. The starting five for Mater Dei are all D1 college commits. There is probably not a team in the country right now that could take them down.
Only one thing can stop them from an undefeated season, themselves.
Go to a game soon, it will be a long time before anyone sees five players of this level of talent all on the same team playing together in such a dominate fashion again.
P.S. I have no connection to Mater Dei, I cover a lot of prep sports in my profession and I have seen most every team. this team is truly the best Prep basketball team I have seen.
Fryer your losing alot of credibility constantly leaving La Habra High School out of the mix #1 Football team top ten soccer team top 15 basketball team what is your problem with La Habra you do know you left David Arteaga off yes off the All-County football team and he is the best safety in the county really just be fair and quit looking at the schools whose parents make the big money.
What about Calvary Chapel or Laguna Hills wrestling teams?!
....and La Habra football
The question is are we looking for the top Program or the top Team?
The Top Team looks at just this year and Tesoro was the best in Football.
If we are looking for the Top Program which is what the questions asks then that is the last 3-4 years. That would be La Habra football based on the fact that they have been in the semifinals 8 years in a row and have won 4 CIF titles in that period including back-to-back the last 2 years.
How could you leave out Santa Margarita Catholic HS Girls' Golf ?
They dominated their opponents the same way MD boys' basketball is dominating theirs.
i am not a MD fan but you have to give the nod to them, since they are traveling the US to play other nation ranked oppenents. All the other who were mentioned are all excellent teams but they have only played Cal teams. And for the guy who said la habra football has gets no respect, they did have two all county players, plus steve doesn't make the all county list so you can't blame him.
MD hasnt won a CIF title in basketball for a while now they RECRUIT good players have the top notch facilities and still cant beat all the CALIFORNIA teams when its crunch time cmon e La Habra and its credentials 4 titles in last 8 years and 2 other semi-finalist now my friend is dominate and Fryer does pick OC top ten teams and failed to include the back to back CIF champion Highlanders of La Habra.
louis just opened up that can of worms of excluding private schools from playing public school playoffs. way to go louis , now we have to hear mr fryers retoric all spring and summer on that issue.how are they so dominant, where do they live , how do they afford tuition, and the gas and time to be there ,are they being subsidized to off set cost. could they be just asa good at their public schools where they can get the same quality education.what about some other players that are just as good but are at public schools, not good enough do deserve the extra $$ benifits.thanks louis.
Santa Margarita Girls Volleyball - Unranked going into the season. Beat the 2007 Division 1 and Division 2 California State champions and the number one ranked team in the country. Finished the season as the 2008 CIF Southern Section Champions, 3rd in the CIF State Championships and ended up ranked 7th in the country.
I have been around high-level prep sports for many years...as an athlete, athlete parent, and fan. I can't remember the last time I've seen such a great dominant cohesive team effort than what was exhibited by the Santa Margarita Girls Volleyball team this year. In terms of dominance...over the course of year, they beat several teams that were very highly ranked in national polls, including a few #1's along the way. Winning a CIF 1AA championship over Mira Costa, and handing National #1 ranked and CA Div 1 state champion La Costa Canyon their only loss of the year speaks for itself....and all of this without one single "ringer" or "all-everything" on the roster. This is what team high school sports should be all about...Congrats to SMCHS Girls Volleyball for a truly "dominant" season

you all sit here and discuss football, basketball and cross country.. yea this might be a fall and winter domination pool but what about overall...
You havent mentioned anything about Capo Baseball, Villa Park Baseball & Badminton, Troy Girls Basketball, Brea Olinda.. Servite
I believe Capo baseball put some major stamps in the high school ranks starting in 2000 Along with Villa Park's CIF Championship in 00 & 02..
Troys Basketball and Brea Olinda's Basketball Teams.. Come on.....
Get some additional information.. Please
Reminder:
The poll is talking about the 2008-09 school year, not ever or in any other year.
The programs so far in 2008-09 that have dominated ....
thanks for everyone's interest. it's a tough one
This is a very simple question....."has been the most dominant so far in the 2008-09 school year?"....why is there so much "history" going on here? Some of this banter is like saying Notre Dame football is the most dominant college football program this year....The question is about here and now...the answer is clear.....SMCHS Girls Volleyball
If the poll is just about this year Chris then please change the questions to "Most Dominating Team" and not "Most Dominating Program". Program refers to over time and not just 1 year.
A program is built over time and sustained. A Team is 1 year and might not last if the athletes leave.
I think it reads "Most Dominate Program 2008-2009. Wouldn't that mean this year? If it meant dominate program ever there wouldn't be 2008-2009 in the subject line. Correct me if I am wrong...
Congratulations to MD Boys' Basketball and SM Girls' Volleyball.
Someone on your team knows how to add up the tallies multiple times on the same computer. Cheap Shot. Hopefully that's not how you play ball.
Isn't that a sin?
How many Hail Marys?
Sunday Confession?
I can't speak for anyone else, but SMCHS Girls' Volleyball had an amazing 2008 season, and have many supporters! Also, FOX Sports (FS) in its television broadcast of the CIF final against Mira Costa said that THAT match was the BEST Girls' VB match that they have EVER seen! And as you might know, FS broadcasts nationally... ?
The poll/question is for this school year correct?
This school year that team is Mater Dei Boys Basketball. Quit your whining with the private vs public school issue, leave that for another discusssion.
this is about the most dominant program of the 2008-2009 school year.
La Habra Football? in their division yes, perhaps you have a point. tough to compare football teams as they have teams like poly that would squash a team like La Habra, Tesoro won all its games, but they did not dominate their opponents.
There is a huge difference in winning games and dominating their opponents.
Soccer? what is a typical win 2-1?
Volleyball? if they shut out an opponent in a match they score what 18 points?
Wrestling??? wrestling is not a team sport. the winner of a match gets points the loser gets less points you get points if you step on the mat and the other team does not have someone to wrestle. they add it all up and that how they determine a team win. please....
All you Homers stick to the question and vote honestly.
All you Santa Margarita girls volleyball players stop calling all your girlfriends to get them to vote.
My oh my Louis its clear you have not seen the La Habra football team play for you to say a team like Poly would squash them is crazy the La Habra football program has grown into one of the best programs over the past 8 years and yes they would be as competitive against all the upper divisions which by the way is only one there enrollment keeps them out of that division not ther competivness, now getting back to the most dominant program for the 08-09 school year its a bit early to ask that but for now the girls volleyball team is impressive but there girls so my vote is for Tesoro football.
I don't think you can keep the private and public schools in the same category...Foothill water polo did it all with neighborhood kids!!!! For a team to accomplish what it did this year is amazing!!!!!!
Foothill did have neighborhood kid but at least 3 of them were held back which did give them an advantage
to godiswatching:maybe the smchs girls vball person had someone messning with it to add extra votes(>500 votes does seem a bit improbable for a girls vball team), but MD boys basketball is RIDICULOUSLY good (and why would they choose to have significantly lower than the team with the most votes?). I dont doubt for a second that the number one team in the county, the state, and the entire country would have that many votes. they won the most prestigious hs bball tourney in the country, the city of palms classic. So really, there are a lot of dominant programs in OC but that is the only choice, no matter whta school you like the best.
and to the bighsfootballfan : great hs players flock to great programs. for example, the wear twins live in Huntington, perhaps 10 mins from MD. With their size and ability, of course they will come to the school who has the best coach and best bball program. that doesnt mean they were recruited. There are so many idiots who bash on mater dei because they say Md "recruits" all their good players. hate to break it to you , but players with great potential choose on their own to come to mater dei where they know they can develop into the best players they can and oftentimes D1 college athletes. Do you think Matt barkley would have chosen to go to newport harbor or CDM or sage (he lives in newport) where he would have had average facilities, coaches, and players and possible even subpar at CDM and sage to work with . No, obviously he would choose mater dei on his own where he could excel. So before you go spouting about recruiting all our players, think about what youre saying and about the logic. dont let emotion and jealousy drive you to sound like an idiot. no one ever has any evidence of this "recruiting" and i have heard stories told by servite students about mater dei practically paying kids to come play here that the servite students have been told, and fully believe to be true. as a mater dei student and athlete who is very familiar with these players and athletic program, i know these stories to be completely fabricated and quite frankly absurd.
so please, shut your mouths when you dont know what you are talking about
I would have to put two teams up on top. Foothill Boys Waterpolo and Mater Dei Basketball. They are both possibly the best teams in the country for their sport. But if I have to choose one I would lean towards Mater Dei Bball. They have NATIONAL competition that they are playing against from all over, and waterpolos best is certainly only in Cal. Therefore there is less competition for water polo. Hats off to both amazing teams.
hey foothill u didn't do it by urself. how bout givin the big guy sum credit. dont forgit to come join irvine kahunas. sum foothill boys r on my club team and i will take care of u in my club and in hs. i control ref assignments. ref dunt do what i like. siberya for him. i can turn a h2opolo game around. i am big dude in h2opolo. join my club.
