San Clemente's Kelsey Wilson

As they gear up for their final league season, here is a look at the seniors who have stood out this season. Keep an eye on them for the rest of the season as they try to lead their teams to the CIF playoffs.

Here are the Top 10 Seniors to Watch
(Listed in alphabetical order)

Kylie Bono (Esperanza): From defense to offense, Bono does it all very well.

Courtney Garcia (Esperanza): Dynamic scoring threat is tied with Bono for the team lead in goals heading into Sunset League play.

Bri Lopez (El Toro): The Chargers' leading goal scorer is an explosive player with the speed and ball-handling ability to create offense at any moment.

Lauren Matheson (Mission Viejo): Incredible combination of speed and ball-handling ability makes her perhaps the best individual offensive threat in the county.

Alyssa Newcomer (Aliso Niguel): Knack for being around the ball has resulted in team-leading six goals.

Katie Peterson (Los Alamitos): One of the toughest and most fearless players in the county, Peterson is the leader of a very good Griffins team.

Mary-Grace Schmidt (Mater Dei): Strong and fast on both sides of the ball, she is quite a talent.

Megan Sherman (Aliso Niguel): Versatile player who must be accounted for whenever she is on the field.

Karly Weeks (Rancho Alamitos): Six games of two or more goals, including a four-goal effort and a hat trick, is a great start to the season.

Kelsey Wilson (San Clemente): One of the most aggressive defenders in the county, Wilson is tied for the team lead in goals (seven), while leading the Tritons with nine assists.

For consideration for top seniors in county for girls soccer.

Tiffany Corder, goalkeeper for San Clemente, just helped the team to a huge win in Excalibur tournament. She only gave up 1 goal in all 5 games of the tournament, the least of any team in the tournament I believe. At the end of the El Toro vs San Clemente game of Excalibur within a minute of ending regulation time, she made a phenomenal save on a break-away by Bri Lopez(whom you have as one of the top seniors for El Toro and justly deserved). Since the game was 1-0 San Clemente, it held the game to a win for SC. For her play in Excalibur, she received the High School Stars of the Week on Orange County Soccer News. I know she has a very strong defense in front of her who deserve a tremendous amount of credit, but so do the other goalies in south coast. Her stats for the season: We have played 16 games, she has only given up 4 goals. She has posted 5 full game shut-outs and when sharing time preseason has posted 7 more shut-outs in her half of play.
    Thank you for your consideration,
    Ms. Anderson

    Dear Ms. Anderson,

Thanks for taking the time to read my list of some the top seniors in the county. Tiffany is a wonderful goalie and definitely is a strong force the Tritons. Coming up with this list was difficult because their were many players that were more than qualified. However, Tiffany's impact is not lost on me and I expect her to be right in the middle of what is shaping up to be another successful season for San Clemente.

  • How could an Addidas All-American like Mariah Nogueira of Marina High School be off that list?

  • fultbolista says:

Hey i would like to know why Mater Dei's standout defender #11, Kali Fournier, is not on this list. She has proved herself essential to MD's defensive front through her speed and strength, and she is continuing her career at the University of Oklahoma.
    Definitely needs to be represented

  • Tommy says:

Check out Jordan Nelson of Pacifica. Check out the difference she makes, like the games she has missed this year and the results that become of them. High quality division one college level player. Play maker for her team no doubt.

  • Kooler says:

What about Mar Rodriguez from Santa Ana Valley High School?
