Here is my new girls soccer Top 10 for the county, with comments on each team:

(The records are through Jan. 4)

1. Aliso Niguel (12-0-1): Wolverines will open league play this week undefeated, having not allowed a goal since Dec. 13th.

2. San Clemente (14-2): Fresh off their exciting title game win at the Excalibur tournament, the Tritons will enter league play Thursday with the most wins in the county.

3. Esperanza (11-1-1): After losing a heartbreaker in the title game at Excalibur, the Aztecs will enter the Sunset League portion of their schedule looking to return their winning ways.

4. El Toro (7-2-2): The Chargers allowed only one goal in five games to finish fifth at the Excalibur tournament.

5. Los Alamitos (9-2-4): The Griffins will begin their league title quest against Newport Harbor.

6. Tesoro (5-2-6): Titans begin South Coast League play by hosting San Clemente this week.

7. Mater Dei (5-2-4): The Monarchs were idle last week and will open Trinity League action against Rosary Thursday.

8. Trabuco Hills (6-4-1): The Mustangs open Sea View League play against El Toro Thursday.

9. Mission Viejo (6-3-6):  The Diablos will have a chance to make a statement in South Coast League opener when they host Aliso Niguel Thursday.

10. Santa Margarita (5-5-4): The Eagles will take on Rosary in their league opener Tuesday.
