What happened in Monday’s game: The Vikings and Lancers tied, 1-1, in the nonleague girls soccer match at Orange Lutheran.
The Lancers led, 1-0, at halftime.
Records: Marina 5-3-4; Orange Lutheran 2-8-5
How it looked: Returning from the holiday break and back in school, neither team was sharp to begin the match.
The Lancers scored 12 minutes in to take a 1-0 advantage.
Marina’s offense controlled the second half, generating countless scoring chances. The Vikings connected on one with just over 10 minutes left to play to even it at 1.
Who scored: Missy Lazcano scored the Lancers’ goal. She dribbled down the left side of the field, beat two defenders and put it past the goalie far post.
For Marina, Jordan O’Brien sent a high ball in off a corner kick. Alex McCollum leaped for the header, as did the OLu goalie. The ball hit off the goalie’s hands, bounced down, where Devon Shinn touched it in.
Up next: Orange Lutheran starts Trinity League play by playing host to JSerra.
Marina opens Sunset League play against Fountain Valley.
High-five to …: The Lancers’ backfield and goalie Cory Tobin, who had three sliding stops Monday.
The defense of Sarah Peake, Brooke Ellis and Katelyn Feltch were under constant pressure. The Vikings did score one goal, but thanks to Tobin and Co., not more than that.
