Mater Dei quarterback Matt Barkley finished first in the Pass Attack competition during the High School All-America Skills Challenge on Friday in Florida.
Barkley, who has committed to USC, recorded 236 points in the event, which involved making a variety of passes at targets spread out across a football field.
The competition is part of the build-up to Sunday’s Under-Armour All-American Game. The game will be shown live on ESPN at 5 p.m.
Barkley topped Garrett Gilbert (Texas) and Josh Nunes (Stanford), who finished tied with 190 points.
According to this report, Barkley has been impressive in the practices and workouts this week.

Stand by America for the third Heisman to hail from Mater Dei H.S. GO Monarchs!!!!
I wonder how many passes Barkley will complete to the other team? He’s had a problem with team mate identification.
I guess Richard he played well tonight to hit 2 TD’s and receive Most Valuable Offense Player of the Game… Oh yeah no picks tonight!. Happy New Year Richard.
yeah too bad there’s no trophy for the MVP of a poor excuse for an All American Game. I forgot the other Orange County school who had that one kid that got the trophy for the real All American game, man he was really good and, o and he played defense. haha. Heisman?….try washed up like every other phenomenal Mater Dei athlete minus Matt Leinart.
hahahaahah richard is dead on with that statement.. barkley needs receivers he will do well at sc, but mater dei is way overrated
make it past semis then start talkin like you ARE… not WERE the best, produce championships then talk again
