How is it that Newport Harbor gets a higher ranking than CIF champions La Habra who didn’t even crack the top 10 ? I would love to see La Habra match up against a Pac-5 team/Sunset League team and see what the outcome would be for a preseason game
Well, Esperanza has been trying to leave the Sunset league for some time now. La Habra would be a great replacement.
I am so tired of LH fans whining about the rankings!! They played 2 Pac-5 teams that made the playoffs, and got beat. Plain and simple they had a chance to win respect on the field and they didn’t close the deal. Congratulations on the CIF championship. However the fact is the last year that Newport was in their former division they won CIF and beat El dorado and Tustin and Laguna Hills en route to that Title. They didn’t even make the playoffs this year. I use this example of the difference in quality between the Pac-5 and every other division!
hey greenday looks like newport got out of southwest just in time.why isnt marina in top 10 ?teir pac 5 arent they
La Habra had a great season. Really, folks, there is such a small margin between the team ranked No. 7 and No. 8, and between No. 10 and No. 11, etc.
I truly beleive that Newport Harbor got robbed this year! They were clearly the best team in the Sunset League and maybe the Pac-5 at the end of the season. I think the way the selection process went down for playoff spots was one of the biggest injustices I’ve seen in a long time! That coach had them clicking on all cylinders by the end of the year and the score of the Los Al game was way closer than the game was. I think if you ask any of the coaches in the Sunset League they would agree.
I also think that Newports all purpose WR/DB -JB Green should be at least mentioned as CIF player of the year! If that kid played on a team like Tesoro or Dana Hills that throws the ball 80% of the time he would have caught 100 balls.
because marina went 0-5 in league thats why. Dont come on here and write dumb comments, makes you sound like a 10 yr old.
Hey Fryer,
You got it right this time on your top 10…………………………………
Well I’m only 8 so thanks for the compliment!
hey LHfan, LH did play 2 Pac5 teams in the pre-season, Los Alamitos & San Clemente. Until they beat them, they really can’t be considered a top 10 OC program, but they R definitely in the top 15.
k-dad, you’re absolutely correct about the injustice of the sunset league playoff selection, the quality of NH football at the end of the year and JB Green. If you don’t know JB Green, picture a taller, bigger Preston King with the same speed if not more.
NH’s schedule included LB Poly, Mira Costa (LA City league finalist), CDM(southern league semi-finalist), drumming of Espy 35-6, and a solid whopping of LosAl even though the score was close. It’s too bad that NH didn’t get a chance to show how they had matured by the end of the season.
xlancer dad, NH was in the Seaview League and won CIF Div 6 the last year before moving to the Sunset League. The next year NH legitimately failed to make the playoffs. There’s a big difference between the Trinty, Sunset, and SC leagues and the other leagues.
Beachbum,
You are right on regarding the Preston King comment. Although I think King is an absoloute stud JB Green is a legitamate 6’1 and 190 and faster than King as well.
I hope they both get a chance to play at the next level.
Laguna hills would have beaten san clemente this year. Fact.
That was really funny L.H. beating San Clemente!? Was that a mis print? Love to see the game- not a fact
