Poll: Who will win the Southwest Division?

December 8th, 2008, 7:27 am · 98 Comments · posted by Damian Calhoun, OCVarsity.com since 2004

Tustin has run over every team it has faced in the CIF-SS Southwest Division playoffs so far, but the Tillers haven't played for a championship since 1997. La Habra won its most recent one last season, and the Highlanders didn't have much trouble in the playoffs until they had to hold off Trabuco Hills in the semifinals.

We want you to weigh in on the game. Make your pick for the winner and then give us your argument for your choice in the comments field below.

Well I live 10 blocks from Tustin High and have seen 2 of their games and what a running game they have ive als seen La Habra play 3 games this year and what a squad of players they have so knowing a little of both teams Ill go with La Habra and the the experience of knowing how to win close games with big time efforts final score La Habra 31 Tustin 28 Good Luck to both teams and look forward to watching a great game.

  • Pappy says:

LH is the quickest defensive team Tustin will have faced this season. Tustin is a physical team. LH has had trouble with physical teams. If the Tillers can somehow get a lead in the fourth quarter, they've increased their chance of bringing home the title. The constant pounding by that Tustin offense will soften up that Highlander defense. If Tillers have to play catch up, it's over. LH takes it.

  • 54life says:

    la habra all the way

  • Country says:

My heart says Tustin. My head says La Habra. So to be safe. I'll say first to 21 wins. :)

  • MJB23 says:

    Pappy.....I agree with you.

Tustin's performance last week was amazing on offense, and ok on defense. It was awesome watching Canyon get blown of the ball repeatedly. And I've seen some highlights of LH, and they're pretty good. The way Tustin played with attitude and that "pissed-off" style of smashmouth football gave me the chills; especially in the 2nd half.

The only thing that changes in the title game against LH this Saturday afternoon is Tustin's margin of victory. Like Canyon, La Habra will get tired of getting "beat up and busted in the mouth" by Tustin's offense. And the defense will step it up in the 2nd half with a couple stops or turnovers.

    TUSTIN 35
    LH 21

    The Tustin Show rolls on....

  • MJB23 says:

    Country....you're too funny. hahahahahahahahaha.

Normally, when a person follows their heart they sleep easier at night! hahahhahahaha.

  • THE WHITE HAT says:

BOTH TEAMS RUN THE BALL VERY WELL, SO PASSING WILL BE THE DIFFERENCE IN THIS GAME. TUSTIN DOESN'T PASS HARDLY AT ALL. THAT DOESN'T MEAN THEY CAN'T.
THE ONLY WAY THEY'LL PREVAIL WILL BE WITH BALL CONTROL, THIS LOOKS TO BE THE BEST GAME OF ALL THE FINALS MATCH UPS. DULL TO WATCH BECAUSE A LACK OF BIG PLAYS, BUT IF YOU LIKE THE IN THE TRENCHES, IN YOUR FACE, PURE POWER STYLE OF GAME, THIS WILL NOT DISAPOINT.

    RESPECTFULLY,
    THE WHITE HAT

  • bulldog says:

Tustin has some of the best backs I have seen in a long time they play four backs that can play in div one in college reminds me of the pony express for smu .Too mush firepower, LaHabra excellant team with good speed but I will take power and strenght over quickness Tustin by 10

  • flame says:

    tustin rolls

  • big dee says:

we love tustin to talk smack

  • big dee says:

keep on talking smack tustin we like that ps hills did that too and we sent them home (KEEP ON TALKING)GO LA HABRA

  • Pappy says:

To The White Hat, I agree 100%. I love football games decided by the guys on the front lines. Three, four and five yard runs at a time is football at its' purest form. I love that. Which line wants it more, that's what going to decide this game.

  • Jerri says:

Like i've said before, I've been to EVERY La Habra game in the past three years. I've seen Poly and Lakewood play on Friday, I've seen Tesoro play....with that being said La Habra can win this. La Habra has just as much "WILL" as they do to win this game. And that's what it takes to win. You can talk about the running game, the passing game, the fans, but in the end it's the "WILL" that takes over. La Habra has come up against some tough teams but they want it and they KNOW the C.I.F. Championship belongs to them!!! They have left a lot of players falling to their knees in the end zone shaking their heads as if to ask ..."what happened...who are these guys?" They can try to shut down "thunder" and "lightning" but La Habra is NOT a team of (2) players; they are a complete team of POWER, STRENGTH and they have the WILL to WIN. By the way...coaching staff is great.
f.y.i. - I'm a follower and a fan and never had a kid on the team so I'm not rooting for my boy I just tell it like it is!

  • MJB23 says:

hey big dee...take it easy; the smack-talk is all in good fun. Not-to-mention, Tustin backs it up. And Tustin's not Trabuco Hills. The Tillers are a completely different monster. This game's coming down to: big plays, DEFENSE, and ball-control. Both teams have all 3.

  • kim lish says:

GO La Habra!!! I hope they win this one! Thaey play great football!!

  • MJB23 says:

Jerri....I agree with you regarding a teams' WILL to win.

"Impose our will and break their hearts"
    --Coach Miller

  • ClanPride says:

La Habra has the WILL - Willie Mayoral that is! Go La Habra, win or lose, you have made your fans proud! Looking forward to more championship football on Saturday.

  • warren says:

Tustin is one team that La Habra should not take for granted. They seem to be a foot taller, and 20 Lbs. heavier than the highlanders at every position. Last game out La Habra had trouble stopping Trabuco except in the red zone, Tustin's offence gets tougher within the 20 yard line. This reminds me of the La Habra -v- Troy game of 2006.

  • Country says:

"They can try to shut down “thunder” and “lightning” but La Habra is NOT a team of (2) players" - Jerri

Neither is Tustin. Shut down our lighting & thunder. And Richardson, Lambert, Minshaw, etc. will carry on.

"they are a complete team of POWER, STRENGTH and they have the WILL to WIN." - Jerri

Again, so is Tustin. We have all 3 as well and then some.

And as I said before about flame. He/she speaks for himself and not Tustin. Obviously a ploy to stir things up.

  • Phil says:

Go La Habra. I have seen just about every LHHS games in the last 10 years. Bad news for Tustin is LH has plenty of experience against the wing- t offense. The case if point is Troy HS and other teams in Orange County that run this offense. I can't remember a single loss. LHHS football has the best rushing defense in Orange County year to year. The coaching staff is second to none. La Habra will win this game.

  • roy says:

I want to see Tustin vs. Tesoro

  • whatever says:

hahahaha la habra has the best rushing defense...hahahahaha NOT!!!!...if la habra has the best rushing defense then Tustin has the worst rushing offense...phill your dumb to think that la habra has the best rushing defense...really i mean trabuco hills ran all over you...and they are a passing offense...and TROY...really wow...TROY was 0 and 10 this year...Tustin had beaten Brea earlier this year 63 to 0 to which Brea's only win was against TROY...so stop all this talk and just wait untill both teams play baseball...and see who deserves this championship

NOW YOU TELL ME WHICH WING T IS MORE IMPRESSIVE

  • LH Football #1 says:

whatever are you an idiot we are comparing to when troy had derrick coleman last year who now plays for UCLA so get your facts straight coleman is much better than wilkerson

  • MotoType says:

In the final game, La Habra will prevail over the Tustin Tillers. La Habra's offense and defense are RED HOT right now and unstoppable.
Against Trabucco, the Clan thwarted three sure-thing touchdown drives and forced their opponent to settle for field goals. The defense again turned the momentum back in favor of the Highlanders when they stopped TH on a fourth and one try, and when they tackled TH on the one yard line and caused a fumble. These were big game plays! I would call that a dominating defense. Also, the offense came through in a big way to score four TDs for the clan.
Last point, La Habra eliminated El Dorado. Two weeks prior, El Do buried the Tillers. What else is there to say?
All the way, Highlanders! CHAMPS AGAIN 2008!!!

  • 73lh says:

la habra has a good defense that wont be stopped and if the front lines do their job la habra will win

  • ClanPride says:

Whatever - why don't you have those numbers printed on a t-shirt to commemorate the Tillers season, since they won't have a CHAMPIONSHIP ring to wear! Go LA HABRA - D-E-F-E-N-S-E!!!!

  • OC GRIDIRON FAN says:

Some of the blogger/fans on this board are dating themselves.

The times of the 3-4 yard run plays and a cloud of dust are over. There are so many new high powered offensive schemes nowadays. If you don't change, you're bound to be stopped. Teams will stack the box and force you to pass.

Tustin's run game has been held to a low average per carry in games against OLu and other teams. However, they still average 9 yards per carry for the season, that is huge. Bottom line, someone figured a way to stop their "Thunder and Lightning".

Seems as though Tustin has a lot of two way players. That can hurt you late in the game against a team that platoons, specifically in the trenches.

La Habra will need to play a mistake free game with minimal turrnovers. They cannot miss any tackles.

Special teams will play a big part of this game.

If Tustin controls time of possession and scores a lot early, they win.

  • Thhfan says:

I'll vote for the OC team. Kick butt Tustin!

  • OC GRIDIRON FAN says:

Somebody please give "Thhfan" a Thomas Guide Map.

Next thing he'll is: Angel Stadium(Edison Field) is located in Los Angeles.

  • MJB23 says:

For the person (Phil) that's bragging about La Habra having experience and stopping Troy and the Wing-T offense; remember one thing: TUSTIN'S THE ORIGINAL KING OF THE "WING-T" OFFENSE!!! Tustin runs that offense waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy better than other teams by far! (troy, western, and any other "imposter" wing-t offenses).
And those other teams that run it aren't nearly as good, stronger, faster, powerful, and efficient at running the wing-t offense. La Habra's never faced THE TUSTIN TILLERS' WING-T OFFENSE before.

And "lhfootball fan", why are you even bringing up derrick coleman of troy???!!! Is that your way of downplaying how great Anthony Wilkerson is? And how well he's going to look against your soft and little la habra defense? If so, TRY AGAIN!

Mototype....Tustin's offense is ALSO UNSTOPPABLE and the defense is doing better; especially in the second half. And understand this: TUSTIN IS NOT TRABUCO HILLS!!!! When it comes down to the goal-line situations, Tustin won't let La habra off the hook and will actually punch the ball in the end zone. And just because El Dorado beat Tustin doesn't mean anything at this point. The playoffs is a whole new season. So stop living in the past, and get ready for Tustin to take the title come Saturday night.

Coach Miller and The Tillers love a smashmouth dogfight; especially in the trenches. So La Habra better knuckle up and "bring their lunch"...because Tustin's ready to go to work!!!

    TUSTIN 35
    LA HABRA 21

  • Legit44 says:

I say Valley takes it, in a close game... 28-27. Go Falcons! Orange League Champs.... next year?

  • Country says:

Again, you can't compare Troy & Tustin. They run two completely different offenses. Troy runs the Wing-T, which relies on misdirections. Tustin runs the Double Wing, which is pretty much a straight forward pitch to the outside. Unlike Troy, our QB is in the mix in every play. All 10 block so one can run. So expect to see something different come Saturday.

Here's a highlight video of the THHS/LHS game, from youtube user, redbaroniii ...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHXa59UaBrE

  • Country says:

Check out the sick cutback run by Hillman in that video. He seems to like doing that a lot.

  • Pappy says:

You know what's coming offensively with Tustin, three, four, five yard run, then bust a long one. No one has been able to stop them so far in the playoffs. I haven't seen any of their playoff games, but I'm almost positive that the opposing teams have been loading up the box and the Tillers are still running wild. Like I said, I love that type of offense, but La Habra has the speed and athletes on the defensive side to make it interesting.

  • THE WHITE HAT says:

    TO PAPPY,
I'VE HAD THE BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE FOR BOTH OF THESE TEAMS AND I DO HAVE TO SAY THAT TUSTINS SIZE AND STRENGTH UP FRONT ON D IS COMMANDING. IF THEY CAN KEEP (LH) FROM TURNING THE CORNERS AND PRESSURE THE PASS, LH WILL HAVE AN ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TASK AHEAD OF THEM. OPTION PASS AND VARIATIONS OF SCREEN PASSES, WITH AN OCCASTIONABLBE COUNTER, COULD NEUTRALIZE AN OVER POWERING RUSH. GOOD CLOCK MANAGEMENT WILL BE IN THE WINNING COACHES HANDS.
WISH I COULD SEE THIS ONE ON THE FIELD.

    RESPECTFULLY,
    THE WHITE HAT

  • ex lancer/clan dad says:

to country, pappy and white hat canyon pacifica and magnolia, come on real tough defensive teamsnot even close to our side of bracket. just ask about seven kids from eldo and thhs who were sitting in the middle of the field wit a dazed look and snot running from their noses whos tough and hits the hardest. And your right you cant compare wilkerson to Derrick Coleman because it isnt even close.derrick didnt need ten blockers in a rugby scrum to be great. football has evolved since its ist days at yale a hundred years ago. I guess your mane fits Tillers !!!

  • LHHS2008CIFCHAMPS says:

I hope the Tustin football team can bring it as good as the parents on this message board. This is good stuff!! We need some El Do fans to help pick a winner.

  • LHHS87 says:

whatever, your list of stats are crap to lahabra, LOOKS GOOD ON PAPER? The bottom line is year after year lahabra has has the toughest kids in the O.C. in or outside of football!

  • MJB23 says:

There's no sense in "hoping" Tustin will bring it on the field come Saturday afternoon; because THEY WILL BRING IT!!! Obviously you haven't paid attention to the "beat-down" they put on magnolia, pacifica and canyon. But guess what?...You'll have no choice but to watch THE TILLERS BRING IT this weekend.

And La habra having THE TOUGHEST kids in the O.C. in or outside of football??!! That's one huge OVERSTATEMENT. So no further comment on that one.

    TUSTIN 35
    LA HABRA 21

  • ClanPride says:

Clan will do what they do best and BRING IT. Good luck to both teams - my pick is LA HABRA.

  • MJB23 says:

Good. Best wishes to both teams as well. Get em' Tillers!

  • ex lancer/clan dad says:

here comes mjb23 or marcus jay or what ever your code is.bragging about a beat down of your 3 playoff opponents is the real overstatement here. i mean giving up over 20 pts a game,do you play defense.you were in the weakest brakett both thhs and eldo brought it and got beat and you got spanked by eldo. in fact if either one of them were in your brakett we wouldnt be having this conversation would we spanky. so it comes back to your BIG D not. can you stop the thunder and lightning added with the nytrogren or are you just a poser. enjoy another ten years mjb marcus j

  • Comanche says:

a lot of talk on both sides....very nice....I have never seen LH play so I can not coment on them, but playing Tustin twice this year and years past, this is by far the best Tustin team that I have seen. They are big, strong and amazingly fast. I have watched Tustin teams in years past, and I will say this team has mastered the Wing-T offense. Without seeing LH I have no predictions. I just want to wish both teams the best of luck!

  • xcheerleaderx says:

first off i love trash talk. it's what makes these games so intense.

i've lived in la habra my entire life and i have been going to the games since i was little and i've never seen such a strong team holeistically. la habra has always been a defensive team. they strive on holding the line tight. i'm continually impressed with the adaptivity of the d-line. so i'm guessing that they will have no problems with containing the tustin wing-t offense.

We've faced some very difficult teams this season, but we shouldn't focus on the past games of this season because each and every game is a completly different battle. And going back to previous years is just ridiculose because every year new people join the team, people are moved around, and people leave. People need to look at this game as a whole new day.

La Habra's biggest problem is offensive mistakes. Our losses this season have been brought on upon ourselves. If La Habra's offense can manage to have an almost perfect game with no big mistakes then there is no doubt in my mind that they will prevale in this game. Not saying that it won't be an epic battle between what seems to be two very capable teams this year very much unlike last years title game.

The one thing that La Habra has that i'm not sure that Tustin does not is the support of the ENTIRE community. If there was ever a west coast style "Friday Night Lights" it would be based on La Habra. Today tickets for this game went on sale at La Habra and the line was somewhat compareable to waiting in line on black friday at Best Buy. The first three people in line purchase a total of 164 tickets. This city is full of avid football fans. So no matter the outcome of the game this entire community is behind these boys and the coaching staff.

GO HIGHLANDERS! Bring it home agian! We're all behind you!

  • Country says:

"the toughest kids in the O.C. in or outside of football!" - LHHS87

Inside of football ? Maybe just in your neck of the woods, north county. But the entire county ? Naw.

Outside of football ? I highly doubt it. Hell, I wouldn't give it to Tustin kids. And what hell does being tough off the field have to do with what's being done on the football field ? San Clemente & Los Alamitos kids don't come to mind as tough kids off the field. But they spanked your ass didn't they.

"i mean giving up over 20 pts a game,do you play defense." - ex lancer/clan dad

Sure we do. If you were at any of the games. You'd see that the starting D gave up 12, 14 in the first 2 games. And 21 against Canyon. Ask those 3 if we know how to play defense.

Didn't Canyon & Fullerton beat El Dorado ? Didn't Foothill beat Trabuco Hills ? Didn't Pacifica cream Foothill ? Didn't Tustin beat Pacifica in the same manner ? Didn't Tustin just beat Canyon for the 2nd time this season ? Didn't Fullerton beat Western ? Didn't Canyon beat Cypress (who beat Valencia) & Fullerton (who many believed to have the 2nd best defense in the division, best on this side of the bracket) ? Do you see where I'm going with this ?

  • tk says:

are you seriously comparing coleman to wilkerson? wow...its not like coleman let UCLA in rushing yards this season you know...haha. compare who tustin had to play in cifs this year to who la habra had to play. eldo or thhs are better then all three schools tustin played. canyon lost to eldo...and guess what...so did tustin. wilkerson had 305 rushing yds vs eldo and tustin still lost.

you know why tustin is the tillers? cuz they got to wait unTIL some other year to win this championship. lets go CLAN!

LH 35 [this is saying tustin is playing some defense]
    Tustin 21

  • LHHS2008CIFCHAMPS says:

Lets not compare defenses between La Habra and Tustin, because there is no comparison. La Habra's starting defense is only giving up 8.5 pts per game. I was at Tustin's game Friday night, and Tustins defense is average. White hat talks about their overpowering pass rush, but La Habra has only given up 3 sacks all year. That is playing against the huge lines at South Hills & Los Al and against the relentless blitzes of San clemente. Tustin does not even come close to these teams as far as pass rushing goes. La Habra will score early and often in this game. The main question is can La Habra stop the Tustin running attack. They are on a roll in the playoffs. I was very impressed at the game Friday night. That being said, they have not seen a defense like La Habra's since O Lu in week 2, and we know how that turned out for Tustin. El dorado held them to 23 pts. a few weeks ago. My guess is La habra wins 35 to 21.

  • Country says:

"compare who tustin had to play in cifs this year to who la habra had to play. eldo or thhs are better then all three schools tustin played. canyon lost to eldo…and guess what…so did tustin." - tk

Canyon beat El Dorado, 37-27. It should have been 37-7. El Dorado put up the other 20 on the backups in the 4thQ.

And why stop there with the comparisons. Let's go in for a deeper look.

La Habra played Anaheim, El Dorado & Trabuco Hills.

Tustin played Magnolia (who beat Anaheim), Pacifica (who beat Foothill, who beat Trabuco Hills) & Canyon ( who beat El Dorado & Fullerton (2x) who beat El Dorado)

  • Brent Brady says:

I concur w/ OC Gridiron, hey THHFAN, check your Thomas Guide map, La Habra is in OC. In fact, every team in the Southwest Division is located in OC-duh.

The game is played on the field, not on paper or video. LH D will rise 2 the occasion & stop the Tiller Run forcing them to pass which will be unsuccessful.

    I am prediciting close game Highlanders-27 & Tillers-24.

  • Phil says:

Dear tillers bloggers, there is a difference in trash talk and truth talk. LHHS will win this game. When was the last time you won a championship. The Highlanders trademark is "Championship Football". Since 2002 there have been 3 championships. Go La Habra.

  • LH Football #1 says:

MJB23 or marcus jay keep talking tustin doesnt know how to play big games like us we were there last year and plus all you guys do is run trabuco actually mixed it up with great passes i think trabuco could beat you guys

  • warren says:

.The Southwest Div. is the most exciting football in all of southern California. La Habra should not think that Tustin will be a push over. They look taller, heavier, and just as quick as the La Habra team. They also have the self confidence that they will not make the mistakes that La Habra has the habit of making. Take a look at Tustin last week.

  • MJB23 says:

HAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA!!!! ..... "Dear tillers bloggers, there is a difference in trash talk and truth talk." --Phil

Everything I've said thus far regarding Tustin has been true! Tustin's margin of victory, etc. All the games that Tustin & LH have played no longer mean a damn thing. This is the main event. And it's great to know that LH has the support of an entire community. But what makes you la habra fans think Tustin doesn't have the same support? Dummies! And it's great to see LH fans buying up tickets in bundles; because that just means more and more LH fans will crying, bickering, and complaining after TUSTIN BEATS THAT LA HABRA A$$ come Saturday afternoon!!!

As for "exlancer/clandad"...no comment. Not worth my time.
As for LHFootball#2...saying Trabuco would beat us is a mute point right now. Trabuco doesn't belong in the same sentence or discussion. The CIF Championship is between TUSTIN VS. LA HABRA!!! OOOONNNLLLYYYY 2222222 TEEEEEEEEEEEAAAMMMSS...YOU GOT THAT?! GOOD. And learn to articulate and actually structure a damn sentence will you!!??

    TUSTIN 35
    LA HABRA 21

  • MJB23 says:

correction: "more and more LH fans will BE crying, etc

  • RumbleBee says:

LH fans kill me. You don't think Wilerson is that good? He's only a junior numb nuts.

  • Phil says:

No doubt about it. Both teams have great offenses. Who ever has the best defense will win.

There is an old saying that says "Great offense wins games. Great defense wins championships."

    Enough said.

  • ClanPride says:

RumbleBee - isn't it Wilkerson? Dumb Nuts. Who cares if he's only a jr. so is LH Thunder. It's all about DEFENSE. LA HABRA TAKES IT. Tillers will be getting the consolation prize.

  • tk says:

wilkerson is good no doubt. i have been following him since last year, but tustin fans are comparing him to coleman from last years troy team.

  • Greatball says:

There is allot of talk on both sides here. I have not seen LH but been to 4 THS games. They are a BIG strong team. I think the weakest lineman benchs 365. And they actually run 4-5 backs very well. The brst thing is how young they are. Many juniors here. as far as LH, WOW! All I have done is read the articles about them and they seem very very fast. And a talented group to boot. This should be a fun one to watch. And to those who knock THS giving up 20 points a game, Remember those were mainly when back ups get allot of playing time. I think it will be close. I knew THS was good when they held OLU to 3 points midway in the 4th qtr and only lost 10-0 against 87 players on OLU's roster.

  • Jerri says:

MJB23 get off the blog already!!! I'm sick of you already...you've said all you can say...now go get a job or something...or isn't your bedtime?

Here's a little secret for everybody...The Championsip Game was the La Habra vs, El Dorado game. We knew if we could get past them we would have every right to be the C.I.F. Champions. Sure, we knew TH wouldn't be easy but with the home field advantage and the faithful La Habra fans it was do-able.

El Dorado beat TH....enough said. MJB23 before you go to bed put that in your stats!!!

  • LH Football #1 says:

what will kill tustin from what i say from the video above is that they have a lot of players going both ways and la habra only has like 1 or 2 and they just go in at occasions

  • cole7783 says:

Lot of talk on both sides, all in fun. Both teams should be proud just to get to the finals. I've seen both in the semi's. LH plays as tough as anybody. Year after year no program gets more out of their players than the Highlanders. That being said, the size difference is huge. Tustin is a lot bigger at every position. The Tillers are also tough and very athletic. Stopping the Tustin double-wing is obviously a lot easier said than done. The 'way' they beat canyon was very impressive, who also beat eldo, so enough of this who beat who stuff. It's a whole new ball game. Good luck to two fine teams.

  • home slice says:

all you La Habra fans shut up.
You really have no idea about anything
It will come down to La Habra's D line. La Habra's linebackers and DBs wont be able to tackle Wilkerson and will not catch Webb.
La Habra's Offense is fast but tustins D is faster. Tustins D line is too athletic for La Habra's line.
For that bull shit Thunder and Lighting.... please. Are kidding me, i think the name should belong to Wilkerson and Webb seeing that they are better backs then the other two. Wilkerson is big and fast, faster then both of the La Habra backs and Webb is the fastest kid in the county.
La Habra wont be able to handle the phycal nature of tustin
    enough said
    tustin wins

  • tk says:

home slice have you seen hillman? dear jesus the kid has rockets on his cleats. as for a fast D. i didnt see much speed in the videos i saw, well there was speed but enough speed to catch hillman. once he gets moving he will make 100 yards out of an inch that tustins dline gives him. quezada may not be as fast but the kid has wheels and will take on anyone.

home slice what was webb's 40?

Thank god football isn't played in a straight line.

  • john says:

tustins offense is ridiculous. only one team knows how to stop their dumb running offense, which is foothill. La Habra take notes they are not even good take them down

  • RumbleBee says:

Last time I checked a football field wasn't 40yards long. Webb is the 100m champ in a league that is loaded with sprint talent. La Habra better not let him get vertical or they'll be doing the obligatory chase for their coach.

  • cole7783 says:

Good enough to be in the championship. I don't think LH has seen a combo of rb' s like Tustin's. LH will have to be at their best and weather the storm. Also, not so sure if everyone realizes how good the Tiller defense is lately. But, if anyone can figure it out it will be the LH coaching staff.

  • LHAlumni says:

Wow! you all need some serious help. I understand team spirit and all but this seems like a bunch of lame parents or old football fans. Both teams play smash mouth football. Both teams have talent on both sides of the ball. Let's wait until Saturday because this game is going to be played on the field not here on some lame blog. Show some respect to these kids that just love to play this game. Congrats to both teams coaches and Kids that have worked hard all season to make it here, and no matter what happens on Saturday you are both amazing teams. Both teams have played weaker teams whether in the playoffs or the regular season, but both teams have played close games against top teams in the county (OLU, San Clemente, and Los Al). I am sure this week and every week leading up to this week these kids have busted their humps to be stronger and faster.

Both teams are good so stop all this back and forth and lets show our support on Saturday. They say fans help a team win. Fans give their teams the will and that’s what you are all talking about. So show up Saturday and help them.

Good luck to Both Tustin and La Habra!

This may be the best game played in OC all Season.

By the way look at the name I am Highlander to the core!

And yes he did. All in the first half which resulted in 28 points. In the 2nd half, nada.

"and by the way do you guys have special teams." - ex lancer/clan dad

    Yes we do.

Our kicker sent a few, if not all kick offs, into the endzone last week.

The average starting point is beyond the 30 yard mark thanks to our returners. Wilkerson should have 2 returns for TDs. But the 2nd one was called back during the Pacifica game due to a holding call.

We also have 2 blocked punts for TDs this season.

So yes. We can play special teams too.

  • whatever says:

    Wow!

    Tustin plays NO defense

eldo 1st half 28 pts second half 0

    magnolia's 26 really

that little runningback gets all of his yards on a scout d

pacifica beat the NO 1 team in both brackets

    FOOTHILL 9-1

final score foothill 7, pacifica 35

    tustin 42, pacifica 21

and to the dude who said that la habra has the TOUGHEST O.C kids in or out of football...

    Visit Carson and Banning High

then you will see that those little O.C "tough boys" act like little school girls compared to them

  • ClanPride says:

Whatever - I believe the comment was toughest in OC, last time I checked Carson and Banning are not OC schools. But who cares - best of luck to both teams, looking forward to a good game. Proud LH fan no matter win or lose. But my take is La Habra wins it.

  • Christmas comes early for high school football fans. Tustin and La Habra are playing their best football of the season. Unlike college, these two outstanding teams had to battle in the playoffs to reach the championship at the Big A. Congratulations to the coaches, boosters, fans, and especially players for all their hard work. The Tillers and Highlanders are blessed to be playing in this game and we should consider it an honor to get to see it.

  • dc says:

home slice ronnie runs a 4.39, whats up? laser too.

  • the_swami says:

I went to Tustin H.S. back in the 80s. I didn't play football but wanted to. My mom wouldn't let me. Now I'm going back to THS to celebrate in their victory. I can't wait to see them win on Friday night. I used to admire football players back in high school and still do. GO TILLERS!

  • AlumniDad says:

Wow.... looks like its gonna be an exciting game.... BOTH teams have fought long and hard this season to make it to the "Big Dance"... If anyone knows "the_swami" ... please inform him of the game being on SATURDAY afternoon... not Friday night.. Im not sure which "fan" wrote it, but Los Al.. did not kill LH.. LH lost by a touchdown.. and San Clemente didnt blow them out either. LH plays above and beyond the critics. Tustin has a very good "O" line, and great running backs. The game shouldn`t be a blow out by either team. Which team do I think will win has no bearing either. The funny thing is, I know coaches on both teams, and one I know for sure, instructs his players to not read the dribble posted herein. What it comes down to, in a game like this ... is the heart of player(s)... and what he is willing to do for his team.. The TEAM that wins... will be the TEAM that plays like it is a 0 - 0 game until the end..... I agree with "uschighlander"... just go cheer for your team... your sons... your coaches... and leave the trash where it belongs..ok... Im OUT ! !

  • Domination says:

All this trash talk is wack
The winner of this game will be the team that brings their "A" game

    GOOD LUCK TO BOTH TEAMS

    LHHS-35

  • Empire fan says:

Great matchup of two very good teams with completly different playing styles,it should be a very entertaining game, Tustin is playing just about perfect on offense right now and that's got to be scary to any team that has to line up against them and try to stop them, La Habra has a very good offense with a couple of very explosive playmakers and a solid QB, both have size and speed on offense and defense, it may come down to turnovers and big plays, Tustin sometimes has problems with fumbling and can't afford to turn the ball over in this game, La Habra has played some very good teams this year but i don't think they have seen an offense like Tustin's, Wilkerson is an absolute stud and will be hard for La Habra to contain as will Webb and Richardson but mainly Wilkerson, Hillman and Quezada will give Tustin all it can handle as will the QB,there may be many long gains by both teams in this one, i think Tustin's Defense will come up with a few more stops than La Habra's will and that their offensive machine will roll up enough points to secure the victory, good luck to both teams and may the best team win and let's play injury free football,!

  • Paco's taco's says:

all right bloggers its fri afternoon and a day away from the shoot out at the BIG A.its time for butterflies and wishfull thinking. Im sure all the kids are ready to go and are like our beloved little boys were the night before there 1st real xmas. through all the fun trash talk over the week I truely believe it will come down to who scores 1st and who has the most left at the end of this epic battle. My guess is special teams is going to decide this thing and I give the clan the nod in that department. Also tustin has never seen the thunder waiting on the sidelines with that look of fire in his eyes that says get on my back boys cause were going to win this thing . good luck to two great programs and lets show the oc varsity staff the best 2 teams in the county. lhhs-ths14 go CLAN!!!!!!!

  • ProudDad34 says:

From what I understand more than six Tustin players go on both sides of the ball. That could be prove to be a deciding factor in the second half. Last year ago former Troy player and now UCLA Bruin Derrick Coleman gave our Highlanders a handful to deal with, but couldn't sustain that effort for 4 quarters while playing both ways. By the 2nd half he was tired and had to play only offense. I think it will be very difficult for any Tustin player to perform at 100% against such a good LH team for an entire game. The effort will be there, but they will get tired and that's where the Highlanders could take over the game. LH's defense is very quick and smart and they have depth. If Tustin falls behind their style makes it hard to come back. So getting the early lead is crucial for them. La Habra can put up points quickly if they take care of the ball which they usually do.
Of course if it rains the conditions will alter the pace of the game.

    La Habra - 24
    Tustin - 10

  • dangerous d says:

This is going to be a brawl! Tustin's offense is a tough one to stop. Dive, sweep,QB keep,Reverse,
Fake sweep, roleout pass(te),fb flat. They do all this with big pulling lineman.
This offense is no secret. It is going to come down to dominate coaching and a total TEAM effort.
LH has both! I think Tustin will be suprised at La Habras total team speed. I heard someone say that
Webb has 4.62 40 time.. Thats great Hillman is @ 4.35 and the Thunder is @ 4.52. Everyone is also forgetting about LH's QB. This kid is also super fast,
strong, tuff, and a great arm. The strange thing about all these stars is that LH Defense is the STRENGTH! I have a funny feeling that the Tustin backs havent been hit like they will be hit on Saturday afternoon. Just ask Fullertons RB who couldnt finish the game, and also disapeared for the rest of the season. He also had godly stats. La Habra year in and year out has feasted on running teams. I remember a few years ago in the C.I.F. FINALS against Western, they also had all these stud backs and threw the ball 8-10 times a game.
    LH was VICTORIOUS!!!
I understand that Tustin is special, playing OL to a tight game etc... But , you have to understand , the BIG LH is coming up and there is no stopping the CLAN!!!!
