Girls tennis: History is made

Dana Hills’ Brynn Boren and Kristina Smith have accomplishment what’s never been done before.

The Dolphins doubles team defeated Peninsula’s Anna Tatsuno and Jenna Glimp 6-1, 6-3, to reach their third straight doubles championship match Friday at the CIF-SS girls tennis individual championships at Seal Beach Tennis Center.

No doubles team has played in three consecutive finals, and with a victory Boren and Smith become the first pair to repeat since 1979 and only third team in last 80 years.

Boren and Smith face Campbell Hall’s Sabrina Santamaria and Sarah Lee in the final. They beat Murrieta Valley’s Jaime and Taylor Raney 6-2, 6-3 in their semifinal match.

In singles,

OLu’s Kaitlyn Christian lost the first set 5-7. She trailed 3-5, but broke then held for 5 all before losing it.

They are under way in the second set.

La Quinta’s Pam Montez won her first set 6-3 over Ontario Christian’s Britney Sanders. Montez leads 3-2 in the second set.
