SOUTHWEST DIVISION

Tustin (8-4) vs. Canyon (8-4)
Site, date, time:
Tustin High, Friday, 7 p.m.

How they got here: Tustin – Century League tri-champion; beat Magnolia, 76-26; beat Pacifica, 49-21. Canyon - Century League tri-champion; beat Cypress, 35-17; beat Fullerton, 53-17.

By the numbers: Tustin – 47 passes attempted in 12 games this season; Canyon – 14 touchdowns (offensive or defensive) of at least 50 yards of more.

Players to watch: Tustin – RB Anthony Wilkerson has all the tools (speed, power, durability) to take over a game. He is averaging 174.9 yards per game. Canyon – WR/FS/K/P – Colton Grandbouche should have an impact in some way or another, including kickoffs. If he is able to reach the end zone, that will make the Tillers work with a long field.

Matchup to watch: Tustin’s Wing T offense vs. Canyon’s defense. The Tillers specialize in eating up yards with Wilkerson, Ameer Webb and Taylor Richardson. The key will be Canyon’s ability or inability to slow down that trio. Everybody knows the plays that are going to be called, but very few teams have been able to stop it, including Canyon earlier this season.

    WHY TO GO LA HABRA

  • Country says:

If Canyon can defeat Fullerton twice in a season. Then Tustin should be able to do the same to Canyon.

  • Sly Bacon says:

Canyon will prevail because Tustin's offense is one dimensional. It's also hard to beat the same team twice in a season.

  • Marcus Jay says:

Tustin's offense may be one dimensional, but Tustin's also capable of connecting on a few "timely" touchdown passes when it counts. Yes it's tough to beat the same team twice in a season. But Tustin's done it before. And very few teams can actually STOP Tustin's offense. As of late, no one's done it - and that probably won't change anytime soon.

    Tustin by 28.

    Go Tillers.

  • Pappy says:

Canyon's only chance is to jump out to an early lead and get Tustin out of their comfort zone, which is running the ball. Easier said than done.

    Go Canyon!!
