By the numbers: Maranatha - 28 touchdown passes by Division I-A recruit Matt Schilz. St. Margaret’s - 41 could be the new tally for the Tartans’ winning streak, tying Mission Viejo’s county record.
Players to watch: Maranatha - QB Matt Schilz is a strong-armed passer who has been tooled under quarterback guru Steve Clarkson. He has passed for 2,553 yards and has four receivers with 22 or more receptions. St. Margaret’s - David Mothander impacts offense and special teams. He has passed for 2,391 yards and 30 touchdowns but also is standout kicker. A goalie in soccer, Mothander used his blocking skills last week to block a PAT.
Matchup to watch: Maranatha’s passing attack vs. the St. Margaret’s defense. Maranatha loves to the pass the ball with Schilz, but the Tartans’ 4-3 defense has been a stingy group. The Tartans are allowing 4.9 points a game. Lineman Jeremy Baileys leads the defense with 10.5 sacks. Alec Brolick and freshman Michael Duenes share the lead in interceptions with four apiece.
