Coach Barnes deserves this award for sure. For a coach to turn a struggling program around like he has is a tremendous feat. It is amazing that In only two years he has his team contending for the Pac 5 championship. Congrats Coach Barnes!
How is Tesoro a struggling program when they won back to back CIF championships no more then 4 years ago. If you want to talk about struggling programs, go look at costa mesa, bolsa grande and the likes.
PS
If Coach Barnes were smart, he would hand the coach of year award to Coach Poston as the defense has won both the MV and MD game. If they dont get those 2 picks for TD’s against MD, they are sitting at home watching O LU and MD play on Sat.
Class Act,
What division did Tesoro win those back to back CIF championships in? Correct me if I am wrong, but Costa Mesa/Bolsa Grande are struggling and have failed to win CIF titles . Two years ago Tesoro went 1(W) and 9(L), then Brian Barnes comes along and they win league. In his second season as head coach he has the program undefeated and down the final stretch of an extremely tough, arguebly the toughest, league in So Cal. Costa Mesa and Bolsa Grande would not be able to contend at this point with any of the teams from the Pac 5. Competition is at a whole different level. Also, Coach Poston is not the only reason they have had success. Tesoro has won games because their offense has put up points against their opponents. Coach Barnes has not failed to recognize the contributions of his assistant coaches. Just watch the videos on this site.
Hitchens deserved this award…
