TUSTIN (8-4) vs. CANYON (8-4)
Site, day, time: Tustin High, Friday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: This is the second meeting of the season between the teams. Tustin defeated Canyon, 42-13, in a Century League game Oct. 24. Anthony Wilkerson rushed for 134 yards in the game. Ameer Webb rushed for 89 and quarterback Taylor Richardson accounted for four touchdowns (three rushing, one passing).
Canyon hasn’t lost since that game thanks to a rejuvenated offense. The Comanches are averaging 40 points a game during their current five-game winning streak. Canyon defeated Fullerton, 53-17. Jared Gobert rushed for 147 yards and Colton Granbouche had five receptions for 155 yards. Gobert has rushed for 1,187 yards and 10 touchdowns. Grandbouche has 41 receptions for 657 yards and six touchdowns.
Tustin defeated Pacifica, 49-21 last week in the quarterfinals. The Tillers rushed for 480 yards against the Mariners. Wilkerson led the way with 201 yards to give him 1,925 for the season, which moves into third place among the county leaders this season. Both teams finished in a tie with El Dorado for the Century League title.
TRABUCO HILLS (8-4) vs. LA HABRA (10-2)
Site, day, time: La Habra High, Saturday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: The second-seeded Highlanders rallied to defeat El Dorado, 23-14 last week in the quarterfinals. La Habra scored 16 consecutive points after trailing 14-7 in the third quarter. The Highlanders had two touchdowns overturned because of holding penalties. La Habra had 105 yards in penalties.
Trabuco Hills had an interesting night against Western in the quarterfinals last week. The Mustangs scored the eventual winning touchdown with 32 seconds on a 3-yard run from Donnie Simonsen. However, the Mustangs weren’t able to celebrate until Western tight end Ken Davis was tackled at the Trabuco Hills’ 5 as time expired. The Mustangs limited the Pioneers rushing attack, allowing 89 yards. Western entered last week averaging 303 yards per game. The Pioneers did pass for 189 yards against the Mustangs.
Joshua Quezada (17) and Ronnie Hillman (23) have combined for 40 touchdowns. Quezada has rushed for 1,320 yards. Hillman has accumulated 1,789 total yards of offense. La Habra quarterback Randall Nygren has completed 58.4 percent of his passes for 1,556 yards and 23 touchdowns. Trabuco Hills quarterback Jason Mayer has a completion percentage of 62.7 percent. He has passed for 1,984 yards and 18 touchdowns.
