The Calhoun Six to Watch: St. Margaret’s vs. Maranatha

December 2nd, 2008, 10:37 pm · 1 Comment · posted by Damian Calhoun, OCVarsity.com since 2004

St. Margaret’s (12-0) vs. Maranatha (11-1)

Friday, 7:30 p.m., at St. Margaret’s High

Outlook: Just when you thought that the Tartans were going to breeze their way to the East Valley Division title … a too-close-for comfort game like last week’s with Yucca Valley happens.

The Tartans had their greatest challenge of the year against Yucca Valley. The Tartans led 14-0 at halftime and 14-6 heading into the fourth quarter. They eventually put the game away with a 23-yard field goal from David Mothander for a 17-6 victory.

That was their closest victory since a 14-0 shutout of Calvary Chapel of Murrieta on Oct. 5, 2007. All of this probably means that the Minutemen are in serious trouble.

The Tartans played the Minutemen twice last season, winning both (of course) by a combined scored of 105-21.

Can Maranatha exact some overdue revenge? Or will it be a historic night for the Tartans?

St. Margaret’s is one victory away from tying the all-time county record for consecutive victories of 41, set by Mission Viejo earlier this decade.
