Just first tell me how laguna hills will stop the run attack..with 200lb line men that will be dominated by norwalks 300lb offensive linemen…I will say this LH has a chance due to thier pass offense..Norwalk seems to get burned on long routes thier corners are not so strong but if the norwalk offense keeps the ball on offense long, how then will LH win?
obviously you dont know the type of 200lb players LH has. If u watch closely in games. They are usually the ones who are beating 300lb Lineman with just shier athleticism. This should be the an incredible fist fight among two strong running teams. If LH can shut down that wing offense Norwalk runs they should be alright. Not the easiest task. I’ve also heard that if you force norwalk to throw they struggle? any1 els heard anything?
Should be a tough matchup. If Laguna Hills has an advantage, it’s that they’re multidimensional on offense and have a very athletic defense. They are also very team oriented— loads of camaraderie with a mission that is 4 years in the making. They really want this for each other.
Norwalk is big & strong. The Hawk defense, which has only given up an average of 8.7 points per game this season, will have to bring their “A” game this week.
Good luck to both teams. It should be a great game to watch.
The offense that Norwalk runs is actually the Double Wing. Not the Wing T. It originated from the wing t, but it’s a bit different. Didn’t Irvine’s defense average only 10 points per game. I believe Norwalk put up 29 on them?
I really want Norwalk to go all the way! This school is not known for its sports domination, but somehow the heart of the boys and the mastery of the coaches has pulled off a couple of miraculous years. My money is on Norwalk to win Friday night. That double wing is nearly unstoppable. The opponents can’t see where the ball is, and the defensive line is STRONG. Go MIGHTY LANCERS OF NORWALK HIGH SCHOOL!!!
Mayfair has a long trip down, in Saturday traffic…could be a factor in their focus and composure. CDM will come in undersized (as they have every game this year, with an offensive line averaging only 190 pounds, and biggest varsity player weighing 220 pounds!), yet they are very efficient and will technique teams to death. Also have a very sturdy defense. Mayfair is very quick, very big, and very strong. It will be a very interesting match-up, and one I plan on seeing without a doubt!
The thing about Norwlks offense is it take so much time off the clock.Lagna cant go three and out and must score every time they they have the chance. If you give the ball back you dont see it for a while.Norwalk fumbles alot it was like five times we just didnt get lucky once.Guzman recovered them right away. And yes Lagunas offense can beat that defense.Norwalks defense is good but beatable. There offense is not stopable. All they need is three yards every play and they can do that falling forward. Laguna just cant give up the long run. Both backs on Norwalk are very fast.In that clogged mess its hard to identify they RB and when you do he has three yards already. If you dont find him he is crawling thruogh someones legs and shooting through your D and gowing for six.Laguna just has to beat that Defense thats the focus. Try and limit Norwalks TD’s but mainly score more than them thats it.
It’s going to be size and strength of the Norwalk o-line against the speed and discipline of the LH d-line. That’s a fantastic match up. Wish I could be there.
you are absolutely Right…For LH to win they must score and score…this will preasure norwalk to throw and go away from thier run attack. They are not very good throwing the ball. But if norwalk scores ahead the game is pretty much over. …I see a norwalk win 21-17 ..LH has a very good kicker….If Norwalk Wins awesome if not then it was good to see them reach this point…But with out a doubt this should be a good game and tuff test for LH….see you at the game…:)
THS MATCH UP IS A GOOD ONE
LAGUNA HILLS WILL WIN IF THEY USE THEIR “GOLDEN TOE” THEIR FIELD GOAL KICKER WILL BE THE DECIDING FACTOR.
FROM 40 YDS OUT HE CAN NEARLY CLEAR THE UPRIGHTS
HE’S COOL CALM AND COLLECTED.
yo i think norwalk will come out with the win, everybody they played has had a hard time stopping there powerfull run even mayfair..and come on 200 lb d-linemen stopping 300 lbs come on think again norwalks big boys can move…and i leave it at that lets GO LANCERS!!!!!!!!
the double wing is not unstoppable and never will be. I can’t believe Irvine didn’t figure it out because before Hennigan knocked the crap out of a good Tustin team.
You just have to be tougher and more physical than they are. 300lb linemen or not, there is a tried tested and true scheme to crush that offense even with 150 lb defensive tackles and long as you have about 6 tough kids you can rotate in.
Norwalk was lucky that Irvine beat Westminster, because Westminster knows how to stomp that double wing offense. I don’t think Norwalk is anywhere near as good as the old Orange teams under Gibson.
I don’t think Norwalk can stop Laguna’s Passing game and the lack of any passing game really hurt Irvine. If Laguna Hills’ defense is on, I say they win about 21-0, if not, it’ll be like 24-17 or thereabouts.
It all depends on how tough LH’s D-line is, speed is not as important this week as toughness will be. If they get low and get dirty and stick their facemasks into it, drive their feet and not allow the Norwalk double teams to get any push….it’s over.
Laguna Hills must stop the power toss play and they do that by beating up the tight end and fullback, and stopping the norwalk double teams on the play side from getting any push. If they take away that play, Norwalk will have to start reaching and this is where they start to turn the ball over; when they are forced to run sweeps or their not so well executed counters.
If LH’s coaches have their poop together and figure these things out, it’s not even going to be close.
“yeah right” you really know your stuff. What your saying was exactly the game plan.I know Norwalk knew it too. Some of the dads or coaches for Norwalk were talking about that 2000 Irvine team that beat Tustin after the game.None of those guys were over 190lbs.That was a special bunch.
We basically stuffed there best drive, the first one. They went to air suprisingly to try and score on that first drive. They turned it over on downs. That drive left just under 3 min. in the QT.
Penaltys and big plays killed us.
We didnt get a few key stops and also made penaltys that kept there drives alive. They scored on big plays after those penaltys.
A few dropped passes and blocking on our part was the difference in the game. The score dosnt show how close the game was up until they scored that third TD on a fullback trap.Another big play.
They are a good team.Tip my hat to them. I’ll say LHHS will win but they will have there hands full. This coach has Norwalk believing and that is huge.
FB trap – middle linebackers can’t over commit, he pretty much has to step up right up into the mess and take it on + the tackle really has to fight that guard from getting out on him.
Against that offense, you really can’t put more than four guys on the LOS, that’s exactly what they want you to do, which is why what Garden Grove did in the first round was ridiculous and doomed to failure.
YO…”yeah Right” You do have a point but when a team runs the double wing to perfection it is hard to stop. You must have guys that are smart and know where the blocking is…the best defense to stop this offense is the 4-6 bear..how do i know well lets just say delaware u. helped me out. I am a coach in youth football and this offense is always hard to stop so i learned how to stop it or better said slow it down.
As far as LHHS winning by a large margin i do not think so unless Norwalk folds…I see a diffrent game LHHS is not used to seeing this offense and that will spell thier demise. They have one week to try and teach the athletes there how to stop it…not enough time. I see it either norwalk 21-17 or LHHS 24-14….
The Vine bro i saw the Nrwalk vs. Irvine game..Your team was outmanned from the start. The coach from norwalk wanted to see your team and wear your defense down . He did that and when irvines defense was tired he hit that outside play to the house. Even scored on a belly play..embarrising..Thats the fullback trap you spoke about it is called the Belly play every wing t team runs it..But what do you expect even in the pros keep the defense on the field they will tire and you will score….
4-6 bear = too many people on the LOS, the best defense in my experience to stop it is a 4-3 cover two. It’s not hard to stop if you know what you are doing against it. Now if you have Deshaun Foster, or Wilkerson, or that dude from HB a few years back, but Norwalk doesn’t have anything close to that. I’m not kidding when I say that Norwalk’s double wing is not the best executed double wing I’ve ever seen, not even close.
Give me a week and I can teach any team how to stop the double wing. It’s been done before. I think that Norwalk is a little bit confident here. Stop it cold. Now, of course if you have a Wilkerson or a Foster or a Gabbard, you aren’t going to stop it dead, but you can sure slow it down.
P.S.
Delaware doesn’t run a 4-6 bear, they run a Michigan State, Ohio State style 4-3 with defensive linemen slanting all over the place, sometimes up in a fifty look with the linebacker up on the LOS. At least that’s what they ran last time I saw them on TV.
Let me change what I said, just a little bit. The best defense to run against is whatever, you have been running all year long. For us it was a 4-3 and that’s what we ran. Don’t change and put in a whole new defense, just tighten things down, realize the point of attack and out tough them.
the defense is a 4-6 bear 4 line men 6 linebackers…make sure your Dbs on the last out are Strong…smash the tackle over the guards everytime and let the line backers make the plays in the back field. Norwalks wing t is good but you are right not executed to perfection sometimes. Its not what delaware runs its is the offense they run is the wing in various forms Flex, double tight, single fly, ect…The best defense to stop the misdirection is a 4 linemen defense with 6 linebackers …picture this a tackle is over a guard that pulls, the ot blocks down on him ,but the other guard on the opposite side holds his block this is where the ball is going…smash your linebackers there and bang you have stopped the wing t. just becare full on the counter and belly and your good….cool
all i know is norwalk runs a wing-t with three pointy guys in the back feild LH will probably have their d-line cut Norwalks oafish o-line causing a huge pile up for the inside run.
rigorkus, you’re a “youth” football coach and it shows. The best defense to run is the one you’re good at and have run all year. 1-800-dial-a-defense doesn’t work in high school. You play the defense you know how to play. In our case it was a 4-3 cover two and we smashed it.
By the way, the double wing that Norwalk runs is pure double wing, Don Markham style, and I’ve seen much much better double wing teams.
dude your just not getting it. I have coached high school and been successful at it too. I am in youth becuase i move around alot ..go ahead and run the 4-3 cover two like you do on x-box…video games do not work on the real field…you can see that “you” have no idea as to cover defenses and it shows….If LHHS runs a 4-3 cover two they will lose…trust me on this one….”1-800-how to play football “is the hotline for you. Learn the game…Do yourself a favor go to you tube input dominguez football and see the double wing against your fabled 4-3 cover two…enjoy the show…
Xbox huh?…I’m talking real experience against DW teams far better than Norwalk. If LHHS sits in a 4-3 cover two, they will lose because that isn’t their defense. LHHS needs to run their 3-5 or whatever it is they do because that is what they are used to. You thinking that you can just change your entire defensive scheme from week to week depending on the offense you face is amateurish to say the least….it’s just a really really dumb thing to do.
Yeah, let’s see, we’ve been running a 3-4 or whatever with a zone behind it all year, let’s change to a bear for this game and play man coverage….yeah, that really makes alot of sense.
Had Westminster gotten past Irvine and that game was a toss up, I guarantee you they would have sat in a 4-3 and knocked the crap out of Norwalk all day because that’s the way they always did it against Orange, who was way better at running that offense than Norwalk ever was and they had better backs.
This a bad year for dominguez. I agree but they have always ran that offense and been successful…as far as the defense maybe you have a point in sticking to what kids know to avoid confusion. That 3-5 of yours is actually i think a 3-4 with a rover….but anyway…lets see who wins again i predict a close game either way by 10 ..and really westminster is not in any way close to LHHS and or Norwalk in talent I beleive they would have gotten beat as well…the Truth is the suburban league will own this title every year for the next two years until they are placed back where they belong..Div 7 southeast div…The teams here in southern div are just not as good…Cool see you at the game
mayfair does have a long bus ride . mayfair coaches have been here before and will have that team ready to roll . dont forget they have coached in big time playoff games in the past . most of that staff has a couple of rings. fitch has them boys playing good ball. watch out beach boys…..
Yeah we here in the PCL should recognize Surburban league for sure.We need to familiarize ourselves to those programs(mayfair, norwalk, artesia ect.) if we want to get by them next time.
Nowalks coach was an asst. to Myron Miller at Tustin from what I heard. He knows the strengths and weaknesses of the DBL- Wing or Belly what ever.
We just didnt get it done.
I think LHHS knows what there up against now and will deal with it better.
“Yeah right” again you sound like you know what your talking about. Not knowing the assigments and confusion is what Norwalk whats from you.
Next year San Jaun Hills will play Varsity in the PCL and they run the DBL Wing or belly so we will know it front side and back. I would love a rematch with Norwalk next year( if we make the playoffs and they make it), even though I know the boys dont.Playing that style of football is just no fun at all.
Possible all Surban league final. I want to get a look at Mayfair.CdM looks like the underdog for sure.
its funny how you say the suburban league will own for the next two years when already 2 of their teams have been knocked out of the playoff… and by who? o wait thats right PCL teams. maybe the suburban league should back up their words before saying they should go up in divisions. im not saying that its a lockdown title for the PCL im just saying dont run your mouth championships are are never guaranteed and plus sheer talent doesnt necessarily mean you’ll win. hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard
Westminster had the best player in the division and a line just as nig or bigger than yours was. I’ve seen you, I’ve seen them, and they have more talent than you guys. To say they weren’t even close to you guys in the talent department is laughable. Not only that, they’d probably outcoach you. Irvine matched up extremely well against them and had they decided to throw the ball more, which they didn’t realize they could do with ease till the end of the game, they’d have beaten Irvine, then they’d have beaten you and then probably lost to LHHS, who is gonna beat you guys.
I’ve seen LHHS live once and on TV twice. I’ve seen Norwalk play twice. I just don’t think Norwalk runs the double wing all that efficiently. It just doesn’t look crisp. I think LHHS is just too well coached for Norwalk to win.
Vine – now way, playing against the double wing is the most fun out of any offense you could play against. You just get to go toe to toe, kick butt and be pure physical. You get to scratch, bite, claw and dig for every play. That’s fun.
You won’t see me at that game, because I’ll be at a different game.
Ya I watched the game film and lots of cut blocking, holding, blocking from the wrong side facemasks, clipping ect. and the refs will be the first to admt they cant see anything. And I mean by booth teams.Real old school knock the crap out of anyone you can to move the ball type football. They were cut blocking the crap out of Nik Abele but thats part of the game.If LHHS gets the chance they need to lay some licks on those RB,s. That will slow em down hahaha.
well tonights the night…we all been waitig for…lets see if norwalk can bust another upset…with thier wing offense…or will LHHS win with thier balanced attack ..PLease tune in tonight at LHHS stadium…For a good game…Norwalks Offense against LHHS Defense….which will bend but not break?
wow…anybody know what happened to those mighty lancers and their WingBack Offense??? HAHA! I guess those 200lbs linemen had no problem taking care of guzman and his 300lbs linemen – I just had my laugh of the week just looking at the first post by ‘rigorokus’. Size and brute force don’t stand a chance against speed and smarts.
And what the hell?? That wingback offense is a terrible offense in my opinion because after a while it’ll just reveal itself – you’re either going left, right or down the middle – and every freakin’ play is telegraphed by a motioning wingback – If the opposing coach has any kind of brains he should be able to easily defuse that threat…
props, kudos and cheers to the Hawks for playing smart -
Yup, I just watched the replay on TV, everything I said came to fruition except, I didn;t think LHHS would score that many points. LHHS sat in their 3-5 and knocked the bejesus out of that double wing.
Rigorkus, you need to get your butt on here and admit I was right. I’ve seen that double wing too many times. I know how to shut it down and LHHS put on a clinic. Take away the toss by stuffing the double teams and crushing the fullback; game over. Props to coach Ingalls (sp), he didn’t get crazy and just ran his defense.
New Hawks fan, that motion is too quick to make any adjustments on the fly. Also, they might come back at you with a counter. LHHS seemed to nulify that counter a bit because their 200lb linemen were just kicking the crap out of Norwalks 300 pound linemen who were getting zero push.
Speed helped Laguna Hills, but not as much as toughness…..Laguna Hills played as tough as you can play up front.
Guys relax..Norwalk lost a horrible performance…BY the Lancers. They turned the ball over in the first half inside the 35 and fumble’s lead to about 21 extra points. Norwalk needed as said before to score and play mistake free ball. they did not turnovers to a team with a good passing game triumph. Like i said norwalks corners were weak and it showed on a flickflicker play and a few other passes. I did not want a boring blow out but that is what happened good job to the Norwalk Lancers to get this far. I still beleive the suburban league needs to be moved back to its rightful place Div. 7 And maybe even some teams in the PCL. The hawks are very diciplined but lack size … Speed worked today…Norwalk showed up scared and guzman jus did not complete his runs very well..but he is a very good back….good luck chicken hawks in the championship game…
yeah, blam it on turnovers….never mind that they didn’t get a first down in the first half.. At least that’s what I saw on TV. This just goes to show that everything I said about the double wing was true.
Tustin is a much harder DW team to stop because they execute it better and they have a back you can’t bring down with just one guy,
i think corona del mar is with out question the toughest team. their average lineman is 200lbs. and they have 8 two-way players. but they’ll wear down with a team like mayfair who averages 280lbs at the line, but really the sea kings are really good for being the 3rd smallest public school in the couny

How was Dominguez this year? 2-8…real tough.
This a bad year for dominguez. I agree but they have always ran that offense and been successful…as far as the defense maybe you have a point in sticking to what kids know to avoid confusion. That 3-5 of yours is actually i think a 3-4 with a rover….but anyway…lets see who wins again i predict a close game either way by 10 ..and really westminster is not in any way close to LHHS and or Norwalk in talent I beleive they would have gotten beat as well…the Truth is the suburban league will own this title every year for the next two years until they are placed back where they belong..Div 7 southeast div…The teams here in southern div are just not as good…Cool see you at the game
mayfair will run the table .to big to strong ask norwalk.
mayfair 275 rushing yds norwalk 166 . final 35 to 14 mayfair.
mayfair does have a long bus ride . mayfair coaches have been here before and will have that team ready to roll . dont forget they have coached in big time playoff games in the past . most of that staff has a couple of rings. fitch has them boys playing good ball. watch out beach boys…..
I want to get a look at Mayfair.CdM looks like the underdog for sure.
its funny how you say the suburban league will own for the next two years when already 2 of their teams have been knocked out of the playoff… and by who? o wait thats right PCL teams. maybe the suburban league should back up their words before saying they should go up in divisions. im not saying that its a lockdown title for the PCL im just saying dont run your mouth championships are are never guaranteed and plus sheer talent doesnt necessarily mean you’ll win. hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard
rigorkus,
Westminster had the best player in the division and a line just as nig or bigger than yours was.
Go breakers!
Wn or lose it’s been a great season for the Lancers
Let’s go Norwalk 23 Laguna Hills 14.
wow…anybody know what happened to those mighty lancers and their WingBack Offense??? HAHA! I guess those 200lbs linemen had no problem taking care of guzman and his 300lbs linemen – I just had my laugh of the week just looking at the first post by ‘rigorokus’. Size and brute force don’t stand a chance against speed and smarts.
And what the hell?? That wingback offense is a terrible offense in my opinion because after a while it’ll just reveal itself – you’re either going left, right or down the middle – and every freakin’ play is telegraphed by a motioning wingback – If the opposing coach has any kind of brains he should be able to easily defuse that threat…
props, kudos and cheers to the Hawks for playing smart -
Man “yeah right”, you called this one.
LHHS 42-Norwalk 8
I think you said 24-0 if LHHS defense was on.
thats about what happened.
