Fryer’s teams 16-20

November 24th, 2008, 2:45 pm · · posted by

Here are Steve Fryer’s teams 16-20:

16. Tustin (7-4): Tillers rolled to a 76-26 victory over Magnolia. The Tillers’ double-wing offense is looking very good these days.

17. Canyon (7-4): Comanches beat Cypress, 35-17, as Nick Mercurio threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. Canyon coach Brent McKee said the Comanches turned in their best performance of the season. Canyon will play Fullerton in the second round Friday at El Modena High.

18. El Dorado (6-5): Defending Southwest Division champion Golden Hawks extended their winning streak to five with a 45-19 victory over Huntington Beach in a Southwest first-round game. The Hawks play in the Southwest second round Friday at Valencia High, against La Habra, which won the Southeast Division title in 2007.

19. Western (9-2): The Pioneers cruised to a 38-15 victory over Sunny Hills in a Southwest first-round game. They play Trabuco Hills on Friday at Trabuco Hills. Western was seeded third going into the playoffs.

20. Cypress (7-4): Cypress was No. 17 last week, but drops after losing to Canyon in the first round of the Southwest Division playoffs. Still, Cypress did go 5-0 in the Empire League, which deserves inclusion in the top 25.

el dorado is not as good as your making them sound..its not the past that should be contributing to their spot in the top 25. it should be what they’re doing this year. and from my point of view Huntington beach was not that good. wait till la habra

  • Tigers09 says:

eldorado is not good at all. we took the bell back. Even when we put the ball on the ground 5 times and intercepted 1 time they could not capitalize. our so called “best player” isaac dominguez only ran for 13 yards and we still came out with the win.

  • comanchepride09 says:

you are making el dorado sound better than they are. When we played them it was a 37-27 game but we shud have beat them 37-12 if it wasnt for putting in backups. Tustin is a very good football team and will win their next game. As for us ( Canyon ) if we play like we did against Cypress and Mercurio doesnt turn the ball over then we shud defeat the Indians twice in one season

You shouldn’t count El Dorado out…Just ask Tustin! Our team may not be the team of the last couple of years, but my son along with a lot of others, wear their CIF rings proudly and do not back down. We are not quietly going away, as much as you would like us to.

  • Comanche says:

Hey Comanchepride09…the comment about Mercurio turning the ball over was not necessary as he is not the only player to cause turnovers. I guess fumbling the ball on the 3 yard line, or dropping a fair catch does’t rate the same as an interception. Mercurio’s stats this season should have been much better if not for all of the dropped passes. One game I rememebr a receiver instead of going up for a pass that should have been caught, stopped and wathced the D-Back pick it off. So as far as Mercurio turning the ball over you need to remember that there are 11 guys on the field, and pin pointing one player to determine a win is not showing what you are calling yourself as ComanchePRIDE.

Valencia you got the bell back but El Do is in the second round of the playoffs. They handled business when it came down to it. Take your bragging rights and hold on to them simply because El Do is still playing and your not.
Canyon you beat El Do respectively so, but don’t say they are over-rated when they are the two time defending champion in this division. Say what you have to, express how you feel, but when it comes down to it El Do is the team to beat. Handle your business Friday night if your still standing then, the floor is your’s to have your say.
Also, Is’t not right to single out any single player when 11 are on the field together but the blame has to go somewhere. So If you lose, Mercurio’s numbers are gonna be the ones looked at closest. How did he do? Did he manage the game well? Did he make the plays or not? He is the field general, he rallies the troops for battle and gets them re-focused, he brings them together. 10 other guys are gonna be looking to him in that huddle to bring them home. Yes, each individual player has there part. But he is the leader and you guys need his a game to get past a much improved fullerton team.
As a cypress fan good luck to you and I hope the best for you and your team.

  • Comanche says:

Thanks Matt…You are so right in all that you said. First of all, yes we do need to respect the defending champs (El Do). Each team needs to respect each team. Any team can win on any Friday. Canyon was by far the underdog against Cypress, and by playing excellent football on both sides of the ball they took the victory.

As for Mercurio’s numbers being the ones looked at….absolutely. That comes with the position. I was just trying to let ComanchePride know that its not cool to single out one player to determine weather or not Canyon will win. Mercurio could have an excellent game, but still not win. The entire team needs to go out there and perform and hopefully it will be enough to advance to the Semi’s. Thanks again Matt.

hey matt have ur eldo team play trabuco hills and see what happens. u guys didnt play a good team and valencia did and it was a tough game for both teams. trabuco hill’s qb passed for over 1000 yards and they had a running back that ran for over 1000 yards so just wait until la habra

  • glenn page says:

Again, keep underestimating us. El Dorado isn’t going to lay down and give up. If they lose to La Habra it will be because they were a better team on that night. Don’t forget, anyone can win any game on any night. I hope this turns out to be a clean played fun game and that El Dorado shows what they are made of. A lot of heart.

as a tustin alumn and a proud tiller, im more of a century league follower, doesnt matter who and what sport. the century league is without a doubt one of the most competitive leagues in orange county, so when i see 3 century league teams in the 2nd round it shows how good we truly are. so, i hope el dorado, canyon and tustin all win and make huge statements. predictions: el dorado 31- la habra 21, canyon 28- fullerton 7, tustin 42- pacifica 22.

  • Pio Fan says:

Fryer, Once again it is clear that you have a problem with Western football. How can you rank Canyon over Western. Western beat Canyon
