Some teams knew where they will be playing while others still were trying to secure sites Saturday for the CIF-Southern Section football playoffs second-round games.
Garden Grove High is the home site for two teams that have second-round home games: Los Amigos and Santiago. As of today, Friday’s schedule will have Los Amigos playing Mayfair of Lakewood in a Southern Division game at Garden Grove. Santiago coach Aaron Sharestani said Santiago is trying to get Tustin High as the site for its Southern Division game against Laguna Hills.
Pacifica will be host to Tustin in a Southwest Division game at Bolsa Grande.
El Dorado will be at Valencia for its Southwest Division game against La Habra.
Esperanza also uses Valencia as its home field, so Esperanza is looking elsewhere. Esperanza coach Bill Pendleton said the school was looking at the stadiums at Brea Olinda and El Modena.
With Canyon having a Southwest Division home game Friday and with El Modena, its usual home stadium, secured, then Esperanza likely will settle for Brea.
The Mater Dei-Tesoro game in the Pac-5 Division is at Tesoro. Those teams played each other in a Pac-5 playoff game last year and it also was Tesoro’s home game, but an anticipated large crowd forced the game to be moved to Saddleback College.
But additional seating was added to Tesoro’s visitor side this season, and Tesoro athletic director Gil Ramirez said Friday night that CIF-SS assistant commissioner Rob Wigod, who attended that night’s Los Alamitos-Tesoro playoff game, assured him that the CIF-SS office is confident that Tesoro is adequate for this year’s Mater Dei-Tesoro game.
Some home teams and sites can’t be determined until after Saturday night’s playoff games are completed.
These are the games involving Orange County schools.
Games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m., but several could become 7 p.m. kickoffs.
Pac-5 Division
Long Beach Poly-Esperanza at Brea Olinda (tentative)
Mission Viejo at Lakewood
Mater Dei at Tesoro
Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks vs. Orange Lutheran, Santa Ana Stadium
Southwest Division
Tustin-Pacifica at Bolsa Grande High
Fullerton-Canyon at El Modena High, 7 p.m.
Valencia-Trabuco Hills vs. Western, home team/site TBA
La Habra-El Dorado at Valencia High
Southern Division
Laguna Hills-Santiago at Tustin High (tentative)
Westminster-Irvine winner vs. Norwalk, home team/site TBA
Corona del Mar at Laguna Beach
East Valley Division
St. Margaret’s at Yucca Valley

I hope they find a better stadium than Brea Olinda for the Esperanza-Poly game as it’s to small a venue for that game, would rather see them leave it at Bradford and play Thursday or Saturday than have to go to Brea Olinda on a Friday night and battle for parking.
ATTN: Corona del Mar fans. Unless improvements have been made since last season, seating on the visitor’s side at Laguna Beach is VERY limited.
Nope no improvements at LB High stadium, still the same. Was there this season for a game.
no improvements have been made to the seating at laguna beach on the visitors
Mr. Fryer, you have miss posted a few times this year about Pacifica. First, remember that Pacifica is no longer in the Garden Grove league, they are in Empire. You didn’t miss post that tonight but have this year. Second and correction on your article of today, “”Garden Grove High is the home site for three teams that have second-round home games: Los Amigos, Pacifica and Santiago”", Pacifica has Bolsa Grande as their home field not Garden Grove.
Anyone know the score of the Valencia-TH game?
Santiago should get its home game at GG High. That is their home field. Los Amigos already had a home game this past week. Why are they being given the field on Friday night once again. Santiago should have some priority this week. In any case, why wouldn’t Santiago pursue either a Saturday game or even a Friday afternoon 3:00 PM game at GG High since next Friday (day after Thanksgving) is effectively a holiday.
Looking for the Valencia score? Anyone know it?
35-21 T.H.
Trabuco 35 Valencia 14
No defense for Valencia in the 1st half[corner's were too soft] They played better in the second half . Score at halftime was 28-7. Western will have to stop the pass to get a shot at La Habra.
Thanks for the score.
Looks like my prediction has come true (once again). Two of the three Empire League teams have been knocked out in the first round. It seems this new Southwest Division may be a bit more challenging for them than most expected. Congrats to Cypress and Valencia on posting respectable win-loss records (against mostly inferior competition) but this is where the BIG DOGS play and for this year at least, you are clearly OUT of your league.
dumb question…eldo lahabra game…
is it on thursday night or friday night…
cuz we have had a bunch of thursday night games?
does anyone know?
Hawks11; No Thursday games this week as it’s Thanksgiving, looks like everything will be on Friday just some teams will not be playing in their normal stadiums
@sc_trojan_fan:
Let’s keep the Santiago game on Friday night… not all of us have Friday off - some offices still work skeleton crews. LOL… mine being one of them. Play hard Cavs; and play smart!
It’s a Beautiful Day in Green Valley Today! The PaCIFica Mariner’s are the only team to make it to the Second Round from the Mighty Empire League! Last Year all four team’s made it to the Semi’s, this year only PaCIFica!!! Well that’s if the Mighty Mariner’s can Defeat a tuff Tustin team at there house on there field and on there terms!!! I think they can on the legs of #35 Josh Brannon, and the arm of #5 Ray Huizar!!! Defense keep it going giving your offense more shot’s at the Endzone!!! I just hope Fryer and his friend’s pick Tustin to win then it’s A LEADPIPE LOCK ! Final Score 28-10 PHS ! CRUNCHBUNCH 4 EVER…
The La Habra game can not be played on thursday night due to the fact it is Thanksgiving! But it is friday night!
Clearly out of their league? Clearly…..someone from the Empire League knocked of the #1 seed in this whole division. Hey its high school football, they still have to play the game, and the one’s that execute the x’s and o’s will come out on top. My pick is La Habra, will execute and perform.[obviously not going to far out on a limb]
This is why they play the games, and Esperanza always comes ready to play. They beat Edison and Fountain Valley. They lost to Los Al by just one point. Now they’ve sent San Clemente home. Nice job with the top ten Register writers.
Western V.S. Trubuco Hills
Winner Western
Western V.S. Trubuco Hills
Winner Western
should be a good game though
winner plays La Habra
STIckem the more you open your trap the more you let people know your a rookie as far as football!!!!!Pacifica will own TUSTIN WHEN THEY MEET AND TUSTIN HOUSE WILL BE THERE’S
hey pacifica wasn’t even an empire laeguer until this year. pacifica is a good team i’ll give them that, but the rest of the empire league is CLEARLY out of their league
Uh, 0925: Pacifica is in its third year in the Empire League. Won the title in 2006, shared it in 2007. And Pacifica had a stint in the Empire back in the ’80s, winning league titles then, too.
Go Mariners!
La Habra is clearly the class of the division. They have too many weapons to be beat. They have won CIF 3 of the past 6 years and should win again this year.
Lets not look past ElDorado. they are the two time defending champions of this division! It should be a great game this Friday night.
el do you should not talk smack we know you are the favor but we like being the underdogs
Esperanza,
Good luck against Poly Friday night. This team is not as good as they think they are. We came thisclose to beating them, one or two plays was the difference in our outcome, other than that, we handled them all night long. Take ‘em down.
this is pacifica year too shine SHINE ON ibet this makes Fryer pissed? he got it bad for pacifica and cypress!!Will cypress did a good job all year and they should be PROUD and they are!!!!You can do it PACIFICA…you got a great team!!!!!!!PRIDE [from a cypress fan]
Go Canyon, Cypress lost to the Champion!
