
ARTESIA (7-3) VS. LAGUNA HILLS (9-0)
Site, time: Laguna Hills High, Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Outlook: The Hawks have been the No. 1 team in this division from the beginning of the season and of course they got the No. 1 seed. The Hawks' reward? They get the No. 4 team from the Suburban League, which actually finished in a three-way tie for second place with La Mirada and Norwalk. Artesia was ranked No. 8 in last week's Southern poll.
SANTIAGO (8-2) VS. COSTA MESA (5-5)
Site, time: Estancia High, Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Outlook: Costa Mesa won the Orange Coast League and gets Santiago, the No. 3 representative from the Garden Grove League, in the first round. The Cavaliers actually shared the league title with Garden Grove and Los Amigos and were ranked No. 6 in last week's Southern poll.
NORWALK (6-4) VS. GARDEN GROVE (9-1)
Site, time: Garden Grove High, Thursday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: The Argos, who shared the Garden Grove League title with Santiago and Los Amigos, are the No. 2 representative from the Garden Grove League and they get Norwalk, the No. 2 team from the Suburban League. Keep an eye on Argos junior Sean Young, who has rushed for 1,168 yards and 19 TDs and three TD catches.
IRVINE (7-3) VS. WESTMINSTER (7-3)
Site, time: Estancia High, Saturday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: The Lions won their fifth consecutive Golden West League title and enter the playoffs as the No. 4 seed. Westminster is led by two-way star Aaron Garbutt, who is averaging 10.1 yards per carry and has scored 19 TDs. Irvine, the No. 3 team from the Pacific Coast League, has been competitive with everybody it has played this season. The Vaqueros lost to top seed Laguna Hills by seven points and they lost to No. 2 seed CdM by one point.
CALVARY CHAPEL (4-6) VS. MAYFAIR (6-4)
Site, time: Bellflower High, Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Outlook: The Eagles are in the playoffs for the first time since 2001 and they get No. 3 seed Mayfair in the first round. The Monsoons are riding a six-game winning streak.
SEGERSTROM (6-4) VS. LOS AMIGOS (5-5)
Site, time: Garden Grove High, Friday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: The Jaguars, who took third place in the Golden West League, get the Lobos, who were ranked No. 10 in Southern and shared the Garden Grove League title with Santiago and Garden Grove.
LAGUNA BEACH (4-6) VS. SANTA ANA (7-3)
Site, time: Santa Ana Stadium, Thursday, 7:30 p.m.
Outlook: The Breakers, the second-place team from the Orange Coast League, are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2006. The Saints closed out the regular season with four consecutive victories to take second place in the Golden West League.
LA MIRADA (4-6) VS. CORONA DEL MAR (8-2)
Site, time: Newport Harbor High, Friday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: Both teams enter the playoffs with three-game winning streaks. CdM, the second-place team, from the Pacific Coast League and the No. 2 seed in the Southern, has only lost to the Pac-5's Newport Harbor and top-seeded Laguna Hills. La Mirada tied for second in the Suburban League with Norwalk and Artesia, but enters the playoffs as the league's No. 3 representative.
