Tesoro (South Coast, #1, 10-0) vs. Los Alamitos (Sunset, #3, 8-2)
Friday, 7:30 p.m. at Tesoro High
Outlook: Can you imagine Thanksgiving dinner with the Barnes family after this one?
Raise your hand if you had a feeling that this matchup was going to happen.
The Griffins escaped the Sunset Doomsday Scenario and managed to get a No. 3 seed.
I don’t think Clark Evans and company have played against a defense like Tesoro's unit. Also, the Titans haven’t played a quarterback as mobile as Evans.
How do you defend him? Do you want to make him a pocket passer? Or do you take away his best receivers, Darryl Jenkins and Paul Richardson Jr., and make Evans beat you running?
This will be a big task for the Tesoro defense, but one that I’m sure they’re looking forward to.
The Titans have allowed only one team (Dana Hills) to score more than 25 points.
Offensively, the Titans averaged 41 points per game in the South Coast League. Los Alamitos allowed an average of 18 points in five league games.
Something has to give, right?
MORE CALHOUN SIX:
Damian, you may want to clarify that LosAl AVERAGED 18 points allowed per game... LoaAl gave up a total of 86 points in the Sunset League.
Tesoro is just too sound a team. Offense, Defense and overall speed.
I can see Los Al going home after the first round. Los Al's line is not very physical. The game will be won in trenches and least amount of mistakes.
Tesoro-is to good and plays control football. They will run the ball down Los Alamitos defense all night.
los alamitos all the way
Los Al 21. Tesoro 6... Tesoro has played an easy schedule and they should be 10-0... Dana hills, MV, and SC, are all in the same boat!!!
The entire South Coast league is eliminated by second round!!
This season, Los Al has been the favorite going into every game with the exception of the Edison game. Edison was ranked #1 at the time. As the underdog, Los Al came away with a crucial victory on the road. Tesoro immediately moved past Los Al and became the new #1. The pressure in this game is all on Tesoro! Los Al is again the underdog, playing on the road at Tesoro's "house". The Griffins have nothing to lose. Tesoro, on the other hand, has everything to lose - their perfect season, their cinderella status, their South Coast league pride!
Incidentally, Los Al had 6 road wins this season and only 1 road loss to Fountain Valley. This game will be much closer than the pundits predict. Most everyone expects Tesoro to win. I don't think the Griffins would agree with that. Tesoro had better play mistake-proof ball and King has to have a big night! This game will be fun to watch. The team that has the most fun playing will be the team that advances to the 2nd round and will face Mater Dei.
Tesoro handled Fountain Valley and Los Al lost to Fountain Valley... hmmmmm... I'm gonna take Tesoro. Easy choice
Los Al gave that game to Fountain Valley. That was a gimme....Tesoro, Los Al should be fun to watch. Don't forget...Los Al beat Narbonne, LA city champs several time over, La Habra ,league champs, and Edison.
OCfootball,
Head-to-head matchups in the regular season can sometimes be revealing. This is the playoffs, however, and everyone starts brand-new. Timing is everything. Bishop Amat beat Orange Lutheran, but in a rematch, in the playoffs I would bet the farm on OLu. Tesoro is a very good team with a monster O line, a fine QB and a 225 lb. blocking fullback. They will score points. So will Los Al. It's gonna come down to which defense stands up and creates turnovers. Head-to-head matchups cant predict that. The playoffs are more than just X's and O's. They're all about desire, heart and commitment. That will be the difference Friday Night!
Brian Barnes has that Tesoro team so in tune right now I cannot see them loosing. Tesoro is ranked #1 right now, but I still think they are considered the underdogs, especially since John Barnes is such an experienced coach. Tesoro can't over commit on defense because Evans will take off. I predict Tesoro by two touchdowns.
Everyone is wrong......The Dragon, The Teacher, The Sensei, The Grand Master Zen, is not ready to pass the torch. Los Alamitos upsets Tesoro in the most lopsided victory of the year for Los AL.
Go Sunset Teams
fealofani: But what if the pupil has become the teacher? Will Big Barnes bow down and kiss Lil' but Big Barnes' Converse? Who will become the Last Dragon? I can't wait for that game.
Los, the movie thing is crazy
With the absence of Edison and Newport Harbor representing the Sunset League no sunset league team will make it passed the first round except maybe Espereza how will lose to Poly if they win this week
