The Calhoun Six to Watch: Irvine vs. Westminster

November 18th, 2008, 10:08 pm · 4 Comments · posted by Damian Calhoun, OCVarsity.com since 2004

Irvine (Pacific Coast League, #3, 7-3) vs. Westminster (Golden West, #1, 7-3)

Saturday, 7 p.m. at Estancia High

Outlook: The Vaqueros finished in the third place in the Pacific Coast League by a total of eight points.

They lost to Corona del Mar, 14-13 and Laguna Hills, 20-13. Irvine doesn’t like to give up points. It has only allowed one team to score 20 points all season.

That defensive effort will have to be needed if Irvine is to advance to second round. That’s because the Vaqueros are going to be dealing with Aaron Garbutt (aka The Westminster Entertainment Unit).

Westminster started the season 1-3, but things started to turnaround once Garbutt was moved to running back. He has scored in every way possible, even passing for a touchdown and he is a factor on defense.

Now, will the Vaqueros be able to keep Garbutt off of the field?

Great 1st round matchup, i like Irvine's chances of pulling off the upset, they have a very good defense a decent offense and are always very well prepared, with that said they must not turn the ball over and find a way to contain Garbutt because the kid's a stud.

  • Pappy says:

Westminster got a little unlucky with this matchup. Irvine does have a very good chance for the upset. Hey Lions, here's the gameplan; Garbutt left, Garbutt right, Garbutt up the middle.

  • sickmofo says:

Louie Villa baby that guy ...plus Garbutt 1-2 punch if you think you need to stop one
damn you best change the gameplan

  • Pappy says:

Villa, good player, but Garbutt carried the whole team on his shoulders the whole season, especially when they moved him from WR to RB. Garbutt gets hurt, game over.
