The Calhoun Six to Watch: Fountain Valley vs. Orange Lutheran

Fountain Valley (Sunset, #2, 7-3) vs. Orange Lutheran (Trinity, #3, 8-2)

Friday, 7:30 p.m. at Orange Coast College

Outlook: You know every game in the Pac-5 Division is going to be tough when this is a first-round matchup.

Both teams finished in a tie for their respective league titles and both had the seeds determined by coin flips.

Kyle Middlebrooks (1,498 yards, 20 touchdowns) is the focal point of the Barons’ offense, but quarterback Dominic Ragland has played well since moving to the position earlier this season.

Fountain Valley has an uncanny knack for hanging around in games. Look at its league games: three-point loss to Esperanza, one-point victory over Newport Harbor, seven-point victory over Los Alamitos and seven-point loss to Edison.

That’s the sign of a tough team. They’re not going to back down.

It is up to the Lancers to put them away. Can they?

Orange Lutheran’s running back by committee (Kyle Dravis, Exavier Edwards, Garrett Gilliland and Damani Wilson) makes them a difficult team to defend, and then you add the Brandon Turner factor and they’re downright scary.

Can Fountain Valley keep its Cinderella season moving? Can the Lancers make it back to the Pac-5 semifinals?

Great matchup should be a very entertaining game, Fountain Valley plays the kind of physical game that has seemed to give Orange Lutheran problems the last couple of years and throw in Middlebrooks and you just never know? Let’s play the game and see what happens?

It’s going to be a great game, Kevin Gillian I didn’t know your son was at OLu, well two brothers will be playing against each other in the game. The Asuegas, Keanu FVHS, and Kapono OLu should be a great game. Good Luck to everyone….I have nephews and good friends and family on both sides….I guess i’ll be standing up by the locker rooms near the scoreboard at the south endzone.

It’s going to be a tough, low-scoring game. Don’t be surprised if you see some interesting changes on offense for FV…

  • OC Mom of 2 says:

OC Player, I think we all know what is coming for the offense!!! GO BARONS!!!

  • fealofani says:

Coach “T” dust off those crazy offensive “Norm Chow” like plays from the past. The Coach Zeno era, The Coach “T” era, the perfect 10-0 team we know…it’s time.

The Barons have fought back all year. they are a great team with great leadership and great determanation. I think they are going to surpise a lot of pepole. Go Barons we love you, Barons Grandma

  • B'S HOUSE says:

The Barons have a great chance against O-Lu. I was not impressed with their game against Mater Dei, i thought their QB was lacking in a lot of areas, although their run game is physical. The Barons beat Edison all night for the battle for the Bell, they just didn’t win the game, and Edison Beat Mater Dei .So the Barons winning this 1st round is very good. Defensivly for the Barons the d-line is going to have to repeat what they did against Edison, and the secondary is going to have to man up and be physical with O-Lu’s recievers. The Barons offence has a lot of work to do in the trenches, if they can hold their blocks for Middlebrooks, its going to be nothing but Middlebrooks’ taillight’s all night! Dont forget about Dominic Ragland, I have seen this kid in action since he was a pee wee baller, he has skills, the poise he has is beyond his years, he knows how to move an offence. Hopefully Shipp and his coaches make the right adjustments early!! Good luck Barons

GO F.V BARONS I SMELL UPSET

  • B-HOUSE says:

this game is gonna all depend on the line whichever teams line does better is the team thats gonna win

  • Emily says:

    Go Barons!!! :)

  • tondizzle85 says:

FV will need more than Middlebrooks to beat Olu. I do think that FV will keep the game close and could possibly pull off the upset. I just hope they can pound the ball and keep Olu’s offense off the field.

  • da bomb says:

FV still lost to a depleted Edison team. FV will be destoryed by O Lu. Edison played their best game against Mater Dei and won. They played their worst game to FV and still won the game. FV HAS NO CHANCE. After FV loses you can come over to Edison and check out the bell.
