Fryer’s picks: Southern Division championship and analysis

November 18th, 2008, 4:22 pm · 11 Comments · posted by STEVE FRYER, ocvarsity.com

Here’s Steve Fryer’s pick for the Southern Division championship and his analysis of the division:

Final: Mayfair over Laguna Hills.

Analysis: Mayfair started 0-4, then won six in a row to finish the season (and one of those four losses, to Lakewood, became a victory by forfeit). Laguna Hills was upset in the first round last year by eventual champion Cypress; Artesia is not an easy first-round opponent for the Hawks this year. Westminster is the No. 4 seed, but I like Irvine’s chances for the upset in the first round.

You’ve got to be kidding me this is one of the worst predictions I’ve ever seen.

  • Pappy says:

No one did Westminster any favors with that first round opponent.

  • Jeff says:

Watch out for the Seakings of Corona del Mar… a program back on the map with first year coach Hitchens and his ex Mater Dei defensive staff…… CDM lost only 2 games to powerhouse Newport harbor and top ranked Laguna Hills…., the Seakings however are rapidly improving under the new direction and coaching.

These predictions are right on! GO HAWKS!

  • Bob says:

Yes! Go Hawks. Beat Mayfair sweet revenge my son played for the Hawks back 2002 when they lost to Mayfair in the second round.

  • dank kush says:

westminster is good and barely beat segerstrom who didnt lose by much to the hawks
i think a second time around sgerstrom can take both of these teams
    no doubt
mayfair is also a very good team
as well as artesia., wouldnt be surprised if they beat laguna hills

  • md says:

CDM plz they had a tough fight with beckman in he final game… they will do ok but will not win it all. I see CDM doing much better next year… Laguna will sail thru the playoffs… and win it all sorry steve.

  • Pappy says:

Suburban League teams are the great unknown. If predictions come true, LH has to play 3 out of the four ‘Burb teams, very tough draw. No one can say the championship was given to the Hawks, if they win out. Good luck, Hawks.

  • Jamal says:

i have to agree with dank kush
SEGERSTROM barely lost to Westminster and can most likely beat them in a rematch
Jaguars definitely in quarter finals los amigos is not match for US
    GET SOME JAGUARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 0925 says:

dank kush segerstrom’s 2 tds against laguna came in the 4th quarter against the 2nd team…. u call that close? it just looks close cus the score was inflated late in the game with segerstrom still playing their starters late in the game. the score should have been 28-3 if LH kept their starters in

  • jimmy says:

Mayfair going all the way Cant touch them losers
