She was sitting at the top of the leader board after a tough day of golf on a challenging course, and all Victoria Park wanted to talk about is what she did wrong.

“Well,” she said as she played her cell phone, “I am not feeling to well today and I could have driven the ball better.”

What the Irvine senior forgot to mention is she finished with seven birdies on the challenging par-72 Canyon Crest Country Club course, two on the front nine and five on the back, to win the So Cal Championship with a 66. She advances into today’s state championship tournament at Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga.

Carlsbad’s Rachel Morris (66) and La Costa Canyon’s Danielle Frasier (68) came in second and third respectively.

University’s Ani Gulugian, Park’s Pacific Coast League rival, also qualified for the state tournament, carding a one-under 71. Just like Park, Gulugian was far from happy with her round. At one time she was two-under, but “poor distance” control cost her in the end.

“I wouldn’t say the course was playing all that tough today. I felt like I could have really gone lower,” said Gulugian, who twice missed advancing to the state tournament by one stroke. “Still, it is a pretty big deal to get a chance to play for state.”

Gulugian and Park were one of only six players in the 123-player field finish under par.

Brea Olinda’s Stacy Kim, who won the CIF Southern Section Individual title earlier this month at Mountain Meadows, finished with a two-over 73, bringing an end to a sleepless weekend. Her home was right in the middle of the firestorm that swept through Brea and Yorba Linda and her neighborhood had to be evacuated. Her father stayed behind, but she moved in with a friend.

“I am kind of tired. I just got home last night and had to unpack and then come here,” said Kim, who had to be in Riverside on Monday at 8 a.m. for her shotgun start. “When I started to see the flames … that was scary.”

Ten players from Orange County teed off at Canyon Crest on Monday, and here is how the rest of the OC players in the tournament fared: Kristina Nhim (Cypress) 75, Desiree Dubreuil (Irvine) 77, Kaitlin Park (Beckman) 77, Amy Alston (Santa Margarita) 79, Lauren Draganza (Newport Harbor) 83, Nicole Rivera (Cypress) 83, Kaori Suda (El Toro) 84.
