GARDEN GROVE -- Paul Gomez kicked four field goals as La Quinta knocked off Bolsa Grande, 12-7, Thursday at Bolsa Grande High.

Gomez was successful from 27, 40, 29 and 40 yards as the Aztecs (4-6, 2-3 Garden Grove) mainly relied on the running back tandem of Nathan Do and Jonathan Rio. (Full game stats.)

The seniors combined for 127 yards rushing on 28 carries, while Rio added a 37 yard reception to set up Gomez’s third kick.

The Matadors (4-6, 1-4) made a fourth quarter charge as quarterback Jesus Sergovia directed a 12-play, 77-yard drive that culminated with a 24-yard touchdown pass to Jesse Garcia, cutting the deficit to 9-7.

Gomez kicked his final field goal with 1:42 left to play on the ensuing drive.

Sergovia was sacked three times, the last by Gomez, as Bolsa Grande tried to mount a last-gasp effort.

The senior quarterback finished 5 of 11 for 63 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. The Matadors were held to 138 yards of offense.

For the Aztecs, who snapped a 17-game Garden Grove League losing streak earlier this season, it was the perfect way to end their year.

“The records don’t matter, you saw it tonight,” Coach James Stewart said. “We’ve got a great future.”

History? Yeah, Bolsa has it...from Wiki:
(They have not made the playoffs since 1987, and hold the Orange County record for most consecutive losses, losing 43 straight games from 1999 to 2003.)
Please, dont think for a second your any better than LQ. I was on the field in 03 when you ended your little streak and 04 when you beat us, but was also there in 05 when we caught you guys. Congrats 2008-2009 team.
