It has been four weeks since Tesoro defeated Mission Viejo and took over the county's top ranking.
The Titans close their regular season at Dana Hills tonight at 7 p.m. With a victory, the Titans earn their second consecutive South Coast League championship, along with an undefeated record of 10-0.
Here are some comments from Tesoro coach Brian Barnes:
On being ranked No. 1: "It's exciting. It's the first time in school history. We're hoping to stay there. We still have a long way to go. It's where you finish."
On facing the upset-minded Dolphins tonight: "It's going to be a tough game. They are a good football team. They are a play or two away in some of their loses. Their offense is tremendous. They make a lot of plays. They are dangerous because they can score."
On his team's health a week before the playoffs: "We are pretty dang healthy. That's good for this time of year. For the most part, we are real healthy."
On the difference of carrying the No. 1 ranking: "We are going about our business as usual. The ranking is a nice thought, but we aren't even worried about it. It's an honor to be there, but we foucs on winning the next game."
Must be nice. We'll see how they do in the playoffs when they play the real teams of any worth. Any Trinity team can go undefeated with the teams that Tesoro played. I say Tesoro with get knocked out of the playoffs early on.
Trinity Supporter: Quit living in the past. The team is for real. Your statement that "any Trinity team can go undefeated" against Fountain Valley, El Dorado, San Clement, Mission Viejo, and Dana Hills, let alone Tesoro, is wishful thinking -- actually, it's a joke.
I can't wait for Tesoro to play one of your Pac-10 teams (wait, they are still high school teams, aren't they?)
Try a little respect next time for teams not in the vaunted Trinity League. It'll make the crow go down easier in years to come.
Spoken like a true trinity snob. How's recruiting going for next year? Have you found any great players in OC or Inland Empire public schools to bribe? I'm sure all those great players pay the 12 grand a year. Well they might now, since the big church lawsuit. I hope the teams you play in the playoffs have big enough stadiums so you don't go crying to CIF.
