The county’s career passing record could fall, and a coach could reach his 200th victory …

Mater Dei quarterback Matt Barkley is 282 yards from equalling the Orange County career passing yardage record. Todd Marinovich set the record of 9,182 yards. Marinovich played two years at Mater Dei (1984 and ’85) then transferred to Capistrano Valley for his junior and senior years (’86 and ’87). Marinovich went on to USC and played in the NFL for the Raiders. Yes, he has had his troubles, but I understand he has made great improvements and is doing well. He is surfing a lot, which has great theraputic value. Congratulations and continued progress to him!

Mater Dei coach Bruce Rollinson has 199 career victories. A victory tonight would make him the seventh coach in county history to reach 200. The others: John Barnes, Mike Marrujo, Bob Johnson, Bill Craven Dick Hill and Terry Henigan.
