OC Varsity ~ High school sports talk by the staff of the Orange County Register

OLu beats Mater Dei, 24-21

November 13th, 2008, 10:26 pm · · posted by

The Lancers had to survive one final kick return.

MD’s Dylan Price fielded the kick at MD’s 47 and pitched it back to Victor Blackwell. Blackwell almost got tackled on the far sideline, but was able to pitch it back to Jordan Allen.

Allen came all the way back across the field and had some running room. He got to OLu’s 40, before OLu’s Shawn Rohr made the game-ending tackle.

The Trinity League could end in a three-way tie between OLu, Mater Dei and Servite if Servite is able to knock off St. John Bosco on Friday night. If Servite loses to St. John Bosco, OLu will enter the playoffs as the No. 1 team from the Trinity League.

Fryer you’re a homer! I am so tired of hearing about how great Mater Dei is. No pub for Lu Hi. For the fourth year in a row they kicked your rear end. Tell me, what did Rolly have to say this week while you mowed his lawn? Did he expect LuHi to run his but off the field again?

What’s with the Trinity League and the trifecta between those three schools. We need either a team from the Trinity League or the Sunset League to win the PAC-5 and take it back from the L.A. schools.

fealofani: It’s going to be hard for OC schools this year. I would have to say the L.A. schools are favored in Pac-5 this season. But don’t count OC out.

Do not count any of the OC teams out just yet, especially the teams from the Trinity League. All three teams will bring it. For instance, MD in 2002 beat Long Beach Poly and they were not expected to make it deep into the playoffs. Poly, like today, was ranked number one and huge compared to MD, but they did it. Any OC team can pull it off.

The talent level is tremendous coming out of the Los Angeles area. The Moore League teams think the Trinity are a bunch of spoiled kids who need to get kids from everywhere to be someone. The Moore League well it’s the talent level and the great speed on defense. Long Beach Poly has a defensive linemen that can play inside and at the end spot that cannot be blocked and super fast.
