Frankly Fryer: St. John Bosco vs. Servite

November 12th, 2008, 6:02 pm · · posted by

ST. JOHN BOSCO OF BELLFLOWER (7-2, 2-2) VS. NO. 3 SERVITE (6-3, 3-1)

Site, time: Cerritos College, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Outlook: The outcome of a previous night’s Trinity League game, Orange Lutheran-Mater Dei, will alter the playoff and league-championship possibilities of this one. But this will remain a must-win for both teams. St. John Bosco was riding high until getting to league play, in which the Braves have lost to Lutheran and Mater Dei. Bosco remains a dangerous team, with Washington-bound Keith Price at quarterback.

Newly transferred (from Lakewood), highly regarded back Alex Fletcher only carried three times, for 10 yards, against Mater Dei last week so it is difficult to determine if he could be a factor against Servite. Servite has a fine back, too, in Gregory Portis. The Friars can shut down excellent offenses, like they did in their 14-10 victory over Orange Lutheran two weeks ago. If Servite can keep Price under control, the Friars will win.

Winner: Servite

again bosco came off a very rough start against mater dei… but if fletcher ACTUALLY carries the ball more then 3 times bosco will win… if the coaching staff makes mistakes again they will lose..

who is going to stop there offense???… with arguably the most dynamic QB in so cal… and a top running back who was 1st team all moore league last year???

Overall I think Servite is the better team, but unfortunatly for Servite, Mater Dei did an awsome job containing Price last week holding Bosco to just 6 points. Bosco is still smarting from the way they lost that game to M.D. I look for Price to have a big game tonight. On the other side I don’t think Bosco will be able to stop Portis so this game becomes a shoot out. I pick Bosco to upset Servite tonight in a close contest.

  • MDmom57 says:

Hate to say, but…really didn’t see much from the QB last week. Step it up Bosco and you may come out a winner tonight.

  • DontBSad says:

MDmom57, this is going to be a tuff night for you isn’t it? MD has not/can not stop OLU. They beat Servite well, we have to give them that, but I seen when they got pounded by Edison and guess what, OLU is better then Edison. As far as Bosco; they don’t have a chance! Servite is going to beat them worse then MD did and that will prove Servite’s under-rankings. Anyways, say a few prayers, take a Tylenol around 7 pm and stay away from sharp objects, you will be ok, lol…

I just love the analytical comments…………..

  • Glenn H says:

Bosco is going to have to do more than just pass the ball. That may have worked against weaker opponents but as we have seen against Mater Dei and Orange Lutheran it does not work against better teams.

Kiki Mendoza has to run the ball up the middle to #37 Alex Fletcher to set up the pass. Alex was Moore League 1st team running back as a sophomore and as a junior so we know he can carry the ball.

  • cameron says:

Mendoza and his coaches are too dumb to give fletcher the ball, mater dei “couldn’t believe” fletcher played defense. servite will win because mendoza is being outcoached–or maybe you didn’t see the first two kickoffs last week.

  • anthony says:

yea i agree with cameron and glenn.. basically u dont play fletcher ur going to lose…. if mendoza doesnt figure it out tonight who he has… what a waste of a season for bosco
